CF Graphic Ideas / Suggestions

A while back George hinted that he might be looking for a graphic for CodingForums.com. Considering that George has provided us with this excellent forum and put in the tremendous amount of work to do so, I think it would be a good idea if some of us were to pool our resources and try to come up with something he can use ;).

Considering the extraordinary talent we have here among our members, I'm sure we could produce some work that would at least be worthy of consideration.

I'm no graphics expert by far (although I do alright sometimes), but here's my first submission. It's made using Fireworks, about 4 Kb in size, and has a transparent bg. After I made it and previewed it in the browser, I really didn't like the layout (not the best time to figure that out...lol). Anyway, just to get things started here it is:

Edit: Graphic removed to reduce load time of thread ;) .

The more I look at it the less I like it, but again, its just to get things started. Anyone with a fair hand at creating graphics and some spare time, feel free to have a go at it  !

PS: I don't know what we'll get here for submissions, but please be polite and don't 'slam' anyone's submission. This is just a thread where we can create CF graphic ideas and post them for George to look over, not an 'I'm better than you' type of thing :).

Hi boxer:
I may decide to create a "contest" out of this, though the challenge right now is to find the appropriate prizes :) Right now what CF needs is mainly standardized banners (ie: 468x60, 88x31 etc) for promotional purposes.

Like many things I hope to get to a contest soon.

p.s: Thanks for the attempt at contributing a graphic :)

Hello George:

You're welcome on the attempted graphic contribution (although the graphic I posted could almost be considered as an insult...lol :D ). I obviously had the wrong impression of what type of graphic you might be looking for.

If the contest you may would be for Banner graphics for then more than one Banner design would be eligible for selection (I would assume anyway). Of course, as you mentioned, if you were to create a contest for the graphic(s) there would be some guidelines to figure out in advance. Like prizes (as you mentioned), rules, start / end dated (possibly), etc. So I realize the potential contest wouldn't begin right away.

Would the Banner graphic submissions for the contest (if you decide to run one) be accepted in this thread or would you create a thread specifically for the contest in which you would outline the details of the contest? I'm assuming the latter would be the case. I just wanted to get clarification on that before anyone starts using this thread to submit their Banner graphics.

I do think the contest would be a good idea and I would guess you would get some pretty good submissions to choose from considering the graphic creation talents of many of our members  !

It might not be a good idea to post the graphics while the contest is running as that could allow someone to copy off someone elses ideas and cause debate. Might be a better idea to maybe create a page at JK after the contest is over and post the contestants submissions and which one is the winner.

Good thinking, I hadn't considered that yet, but I can certainly see the logic behind it. The potential contest could become somewhat complex, but hopefully not to the point that it gets in the way of the contest being held at all. I think it's workable  .

Hi boxer:
Should a contest be held, a new thread certainly will be created just for it. In the meantime that shouldn't hinder creative people with too much time on their hands from posting their contributions in this thread if they want :D

Nice work Feyd ;). I don't believe I can rival any of those, but here's a banner graphic I scratched out in Fireworks I figured I'd post just for kicks ('bout all it's good for...lol):

I also saw the graphics you made here (http://javascriptkit.com/award.htm). Again, nice work  !

I don't think Feyd should be allowed to enter this contest. I guess old people can be good at some things. :D

Ok here is my masterpiece lol

Not bad Spookster...gives it a new twist and is definitely more eye catching than the one I designed  .

For some reason, whenever I see "CF", I can't help but think "Cold Fusion"...lol. It's good that the banner designs include "CodingForums" and other indications that CF is a good all 'round Web Development help forum so potential members aren't mislead into thinking that our forum is strictly cold fusion oriented (http://webforums.macromedia.com/coldfusion/)...lol ;) .

lol thanks. I'm not what you would call a graphics designer. I just dabble. That took me an hour in Adobe Photoshop6.

I was thinking that about CF too for awhile.

hush

Zvona, I grabbed your banner and uploaded it to some test space I have so it can be displayed here (if it's alright with you of course). Zvona's submission (codForJoke.gif):

George said he wanted some promotional banners and stuff. So here is my first working draft.

See new revision below

So far, I like Feyd's middle one the best :)

CF thingy looks a little like Microsoft's XBox "Jewel"

Just you wait until I get hit with some inspiration though ;)

I like Feyd's first best, imo the whole site should be given a stylish look, I've found popular forums are often pretty too.

Just thought I'd drop a note saying thanks for all the banners so far. Some are definitely usable. Keep em' coming!

I like Feyd's first one the most as well.

Here's my latest design, had problems coming up with a slogan (so to speak) to put in the banner with CodingForums.com. Still don't really like the one I used here. Need something short, but powerful ;).

Here is a revision on the first banner. I slowed it it down a bit and made a few minor tweaks.

http://www.kurannet.com/coding-forums-ad2.gif

It's a bit ASP/M$-centric, isn't it? This place goes beyond that, and it has always been more geared to client-side scripting...all that is up to WA, however.

Oh, and I guess I should clear it up (never thought of it to mention), but the headers I did were simply meant to be dropped into the current header...thus the black background.

So there you have it.

I'm not very good a grafix but I like to play around.

EDIT: only shows up for me when I right click it and show picture so heres the address:
http://www.geocities.com/cjwboo/cf.gif

cf.gif (http://www.geocities.com/cjwboo/cf.gif)

EDIT: The only way I get it to work is coping and pasting the address.

i don't think that the vb logo can be used for advertising purposes.. i think WA needs to have a say here :)
