Conversion - Website Creator Lite to Frontpage

Is it possible to initially design a website using the online Website Creator Lite
application and then continue development by downloading that website
and using a program like Frontpage?

If so, what directories would I have to download from my westhost account?

The one time I used the Website Creator it seemed to be much like Front Page in that it added it's own "code" to stuff. The pages where still just HTML so if you wanted to try it you would need to just download those pages and any files they where dependent on. Things like images and any CSS or javascripts. Can't remember for sure where it puts that stuff but the paths will be in the HTML page.

I am not sure how FrontPage is going to react to the files since I don't use it. I think you would just have to try it and see what happens. I do know that they suggest you do not use FrontPage with other methods like FTP and I have ran into a few problems when working with client sites who use FrontPage. Stuff I upload can be deleted when they do an update via FrontPage.

Ok thanks, I use frontpage but none of it's propritary features.
I keep everything in simple HTML.

I have a customer who is new to Westhost and currently using
Website Creator Lite and most likely, he is soon going to hit the
limitations of that application and need to continue development
using a "real" web development tool.

I figured this issue would have come up before.
I'm surprised I couldn't find anything on this topic.

I'll report back my findings.
Thanks again!

You shouldn't have any problems really. I did play with it when it first came out and pretty sure I took what it created and then built on that to make some other pages. Just been too long since I did it to remember specifics. Once you see the HTML I am sure you will see what is needed.

I do think that I downloaded the files to my local then went in and uninstalled the WebSite Creator. If I recall this wiped what had been done but then I was simply able to upload what I had downloaded and them played with.

Ok Wildj, thanks for sharing your experience.
Especially the part about how uninstalling Website Creator wipes
out the the website but you were able to upload it again.
That would have made me nervous for a while. Hhahhaaa.

I spoke to Mark today at tech support and he told me that websites created on the WestHost Creator program cannot be transferred to other programs.
