Any PHPBB gurus here?

After failing to successfully install Ikonboard, YABB, and Teemz on my westhost account, Westhost suggested I try PHPBB. I have no prior experience in PHP or SQL so is there anyone I can correspond with directly that could assist me if I run into problems (which will most likely occur). I will be out of town until Sunday evening so I won't attempt it until then so if you can help me out, please let me know in this thread or private message me.

First things first, make sure to request a database be setup on your account:

Once you have that ready, then download the phpBB, unzip it, then upload it to your account. Run the install.php script, follow the directions, and you should be good to go. If you have problems with the install, phpbb.com has a very large support forum with a great community for helping out those who are having troubles.

I changed the signup settings so there is no e-mail sent with a confirmation link but I would like to implement that feature. Anyone have any ideas why the link sent won't work?

Where can I sign up for an account to receive the email (with the bad link:) If I can see how that is coming across and peek at the code I may be able to figure it out. What does the mail() line for the email look like? The more info the better :) you can email me at admin@petitmorte.net if you like

I got the email, but still would need to see that part of the code that handles the registration / generates the email.. it shouldn't be difficult at all to change it back however you want it... also, if I may make a suggestion? disable html on the board.. I don't know what kind of input verification is in use, but every PHPbb board I've tested that allowed HTML was vulnerable to script injections.

I just installed phpBB on a couple of sites. I hadn't got any new users yet but my wife went ahead and signed up for the one on our home business site but she told me she kept getting an error and it wasn't working the error was;

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

and it said a lot more stuff by that's the gist. I never noticed because as administrator and never resgistered that way. However my wife's registration did go through but it's not returning the confirmation page.

I'm thinking I don't have a permission set right but I'm not sure what.

You may want to post your forums location so that it can be looked at and the error duplicated so that we can provide more help. I do highly recommend using the PhpBB support forums for your questions, or at the very least searching them for the same issue as 99% of the questions everyone has have already been answered, multiple times.

Well I've been looking and looking at their forums even using the search function but I have not found something exactly matching my problem. Their boards are really overwhelmed!

Right now I just turned on approval by administator on our home business site at;

You should get the error message there I was talking about

I have it set to user authentication and you should not get an error when registaring
