Installing PHPBB2 manually

My phpBB2 went down and I knew that I had backed it up, so I uninstalled it, hoping to reinstall it and use the backup. Only, when I went into the site manager I could no install the PHPbb2 again. (It said runtime error) I then went and downloaded the phpbb2 right from phpbb. I put it on the server fine. Now I can access it, but I need some database info.
I need:

The database type
Database server hostname (localhost???)
The database name
Database username
Database password
Server port (80??)

Any help from users would be greatly appreciated as obviously I won't get any from Westhost.

I don't know about westhost 2.0 yet, but from westhost 1.0.

I don't remember what you put in there for database type. I'll check as soon as I get home today and reply again.
The database server is localhost
The port of the webserver is 80

The rest of the information was sent to me in an E-mail when I asked Westhost to set up my database in the first place. Did you get that E-mail?

No I never got the email probably because I set up MySQL on the 2.0 system. I guess I'll have to try to contact westhost and find out. Thanks anyways.

I looked in my config file and I think the dbms type is mysql. I don't see that setting in my config file, but looking at the documentation over at http://www.phpbb.com tells me that mysql is what you want

I had to manually install my board also. I tried phpBB2, YaBBse, and Invision Power Board and settled on IPB. The admin features are far superior. I think there is a new security issue with phpBB2 so be sure to check if there is a patch or the version you downloaded contains the patch.

The database type =(I also think it's) mysql
Database server hostname =localhost
Server port =80

The database name/Database username /Database password
Have you installed the MySQL database and phpMyAdmin using your Site Manager? I think you may also need the PerlMySQL Libs.

After install, log into phpMyAdmin (http://www.your-site.com/plugins/PhpMyAdmin/index.php) and create a new database. You can set the database name, the username and the password there. You will need to create the database before you install your board.

I'm not sure how to restore your old database though. I'm new to this database stuff but I'll help if I can.

Visible Soul - Thank you very much for helping me out with this. It worked like a charm! If I would have had to wait for westhost to help me, I'd probably have waited weeks. Thanks again!

Ah, so with Westhost 2.0 you have to create your own database. I get it now.

Sweet :!: I hope we hear a lot more about things working like a charm at WH soon.

I think the WH Site Manager install may create a database called phpBB and a username root. But my install didn't work right and how was I supposed to know the username or database name? I don't remember seeing it in the WH user manual. The manual install isn't hard though and I like being able to choose the database name and user name myself anyway.
