MySQL newbie question

Hi,

I am a web designer recently familiar with Miva and now want to try setting up databases. I'm not sure if I need MySQL or something else. My client has about 40 items to sell and this may increase in the future. Is MySQL set up to integrate with Miva or is this a totally different set up? Also, I am not a programmer so I hope this won't be a problem. I would appreciate some advice on the best way to go.

Every shopping cart application I've ever seen has a database behind it. I'm not familiar with Miva, but I'm sure that does as well.

You don't need to be a programmer to set up Miva (or other packages such as osCommerce). But if you want to modify the installation it certainly helps. :)

MIVA runs on DBF files. You'll find them in the htsdata folder in your acount. They are custom DBF files and I have yet to find someone who can convert them to mySQL. There is one application that cost $995 at mvcool.com that does this, but I don't need it THAT bad. Pretty much you need a MIVA coder to customize MIVA, but there are lots of modules out there already. I would highly recommend mvcool.com.
