php speed?

I have seen some comments about the speed of php on accounts and have even noticed it myself at times. Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone submitted a ticket pertaining to it and if so gotten any response?

I wonder if WestHost is aware and if it is one of the "patches" they plan to do?

Perhaps it just has to do with overall performance which they do seem to be aware of and working on.

I've got a couple of PHP intensive sites up, and the speed seems good to me. Certainly no slower than it was under Westhost1

I've just installed osCommerce on one site, and that seems to be running fine, and that is a lot of PHP code.

One or two of the (PHP) scripts I use have a "benchmark" at the bottom of each page ("page loaded in x.xxx seconds"), and I have noticed that it is consistently slower than what it used to be on WestHost 1.0. However, it's still only about 0.5 seconds slower at most, so it's not the end of the world (but it is a noticeable speed drop). I haven't really paid attention to it since they did the most recent patches, etc. so it might have improved a little more after that...

Same here. First I thougth that is the MySql is the problem, but I see others complain about Php so it could be Php... Anyway is slower than WH1.:( Actually is very strange ,sometime get the request fast, and sometime slow.

It may be the MySql. I see in on the pages for the phpBB board the most often. Still not sure if it is something we or even WH really has control over. I have try to quickly check other sites I know that are not on WH servers to try and see if it may simply be general internet traffic at the time and I think that can be the biggest culprit at times.

I have come to realize that there are just two many factors that can affect it to really know. I also used to try and compare it to say the West Host site or other sites like Google and then it dawned on me that they are on there own servers for the most part and can be optimized for the needs of the company. Even though the VPS system makes it seem like we are on our own setup we still share resources with others I am sure. I know WH monitors all of this and tries to step things up on a server if they see things backing up.

It may be that there are some things they can do to help in the long run but even as it is now I think it is not to bad and a really good deal. :)
