Before using WH I had an Invision Board - It seemed good and stable and everything. the only time it ever went wrong was when i messed up an update once (heh)

I'm intruiged by phpBB.. It's obviously capable.. If i auto-install it on my WH space, will it auto-upgrade itself to recent versions? Now that could be handy.

As it is i cant decide between phpBB and invision. Errk.. thanks in advance..

No I do not believe it will auto upgrade or atleast I hope WestHost will not do that. The problem with WestHost upgrading your board is that with phpBB you can add "mods" modifications. If you have done that and WestHost did a generic upgrade then it could remove some of those mods.

Right now it looks like WestHost uses version 2.04 for themselfs but if you install the board it will install version 2.05. There is a newer 2.06 available that you can upgrade to or you could go to phpBB and grab the lastest versiona and install it manually.

It is a pretty neat board but can be a bit difficult to get the hang of so be ready to do some reading and reasearch at the phpBB site if you want to do more with it then just the default install.
