After phpbb installation

I have installed phpbb onto my server using the site manager. It is working very well except for a couple of log in problems.

I changed my folder name from phpbb to womby, but made sure it was directed to the right path in my phpbb administration. Would that have an effect on member log in?

Thanks so much!

No it should not affect it. If you made changes to the cookie settings also after people had signed up then that could affect it. You could let your members know they should clear their cookies or if they know how remove simply the cookie for your site. Also AOL users may have some problems with the sessions. You can have them use a browser other then the AOL browser and it will take care of it. Yet anouther strick against AOL. :)

It sounds like a cookie problem to me. As of now, users have to log in both at the bottom in the quick log in, and then again by going to the log in screen. It's a pain.

What should my cookies be set to?
As of now:

Cookie name: phpbb2mysql

cookie path: /

and thats all I have.

Thanks again!

You should only have to set three things on your cookie settings.

Cookie domain: yourdomain(dot)com
Cookie name: what you have is fine
Cooke path: also what you have is fine

That should be all you need. If a user logs in with the log in screen instead of the quick login at the bottom does it work?

No, they have to log in using both :(

Thank You

Have you gotten any feedback from the users having this porblem on what browser or ISP they are using. I noticed a "glitch" on a board I am working on the other day when I view it with Netscape 7. Didn't think much of it at the time since I am doing some heavy modifications to the board but it did have to do with the log in page. I was not logging in with Netscape at the time but it did flash the second login screen even when I was logged in but then went on. Maybe it was not my modifications.

Try to get as much info from the users that you can and if you have done any modifications to the board other then the directory and the changeing of the logo let me know.

I had minor login problems with my phpBB after moving a board to Westhost. Finally fixed them with these settings:

Cookie domain: .domainname.com
Cookie name: anythingdifferenttowhatyouhavenow
Cookie path: /

There's nothing wrong with the cookie name you have but you may get minor(?) logout problems of your own if you use the existing one with the changed cookie domain. For similar reasons it may be best to do these changes directly to the database using PHPmyadmin rather than in the Administration area of phpBB. Important: Note there are 2 dots in the cookie domain - one before domainname (which should be your domain, not the word "domainname") and one between domainname and com.

Hope this helps. :)

springfrog,

Do you know if this this is to cover when the board is accessed with a www.domain.com url instead of a simple domain.com?

Yes, it should work for both. :) I usually use the www when visiting my forum so can vouch that it's fine with the www, and I've tried initially visiting without the www too which seems fine also.
