MST3K

Does anyone else here like that TV show Mystery Science Theatre 3000? It's the one with the silouette of the guy and the robots at the bottom of the screen watching really really bad B movies and making fun of them the whole time. I'm I a dying breed or do other love this show as much as I do?

I haven't seen that show in years! When I was in college that was our favorite show to sit up and watch late at night  . Is it even on anymore?

Naw, they aren't that funny, I watched one late at nigh by myself and didn't find it very funny at all.

I don't think it's on TV anymore (and if it is, it's only on really early in the morning on saturdays or something like that), but you can get them on the internet now. There is a site that is set up to distribute and preserve old TV shows like that, it's called DAP Central (DAP stands for Digital Archive Project).

There used to be a big comunity of fans of the show that traded and swapped taped episodes, but now they just do it all over the net with file sharing programs.

They only share episodes that are not commercially available for sale (they say that's how they stay comfortably in the gray of copyright:) ), but there are still like 200 episodes available through the DAP.

Are there any other DAPers out there? I have been going to the site for a while, but I've only been able to get about 150 Episodes of MST3K (they use a buggy file sharing program called e-donkey that is very sensitive, and when I upgraded to the latest version it stopped working for me).

You should check out the dap, it's address is http://dapcentral.org. They do other tv shows like News Radio (I have all of those), The Critic (I have about 20 of those), and a bunch of other shows like that. You can put your suggestions into their board for other shows that you would like to see "DAPed" (or "preserved digitally").

Neo, you have to watch them in a group, they aren't very funny if you watch them by yourself, you'll only get about 1/3 of the jokes, you basically need a group setting so that when you miss something, theres someone else there to explain the joke, and once you get it, it's hilarious...

Which one did you watch Neo? That makes a difference too. I admit that they aren't all great (in fact, some of their really early ones are extremely boring), but the middle and later on ones were really really histarical.

My nickname is actually from one of the MST3K's, if anyone can guess what the significance of my nickname on this board is (JDBaker), I'd be pretty impressed (but then again, maybe there are alot of MST3K fans out there)...

I agree with jdbaker, the first time I saw it it was just kind of funny, but IMHO, the more people you have and the later it is the better it gets.

Thanks for the tip on DAP Central, I will have to check it out.

There is one MST3K episode that is absolutely hilarious. I think it was called "The Final Cult", but I'm not entirely sure. It's the one with that nerdy Canadian kid that gets chased around by a cult. Most the basis is making fun of Canadians and nerds though :) .

It's called "The Final Sacrifice". I have that one downloaded, it is hilarious (probably one of my favorites). Any movie with a hero named Rowzdower has got to be good ;)

You know what would be funny, a MST4K show that goes back and critiques MST3K episodes.

that would be great jlararj.

Your cow is kinda scary JD, btw you never told me what JD stands for. Or how cow tipping went the other night.
