From the Lounge:
Comments on Posts (http://forums.devshed.com/t235445/s.html)

This might be worth a look at if there's been 3 posts on it in the last week. It might need some coagulation to make it more easily understood at first glance.

This all stems from the FAQ (http://forums.devshed.com/faq.php) not being all that useful or as clear as everyone thinks...

I read the FAQ (http://forums.devshed.com/faq.php) when I first starting using DevShed, yet it said nothing in there (that I could find) about the 90 day, 100 post user restriction... or why I couldn't set a signature or an avatar, or use the shout box... or any of that...

Then, there is a hidden FAQ (http://forums.devshed.com/t194545/s.html) in the lounge that states all that information is covered (and had been for awhile) in the FAQ... The ducks are definitely not in a row here... The FAQ (http://forums.devshed.com/faq.php) needs some adjustment...

The worst part is that when a new user does ask a question, they usually end up with an answer like... read the faq, or worse r33d 73h fvk1|\|g F4Q. Not Cool

Not sure why but it doesn't list under the FAQ anymore (it did before quite clearly)

Thank god, I thought I was crazy or something... though that may remain to be seen... ;)

I only posted this because there's obvious confusion where forum users who observe traditional ettiquette still can't find the answers thery're looking for that quickly

The FAQ [menu bar] asks for a search term rather than listing possible areas of enquiry

Maybe a traditional static (or generatable) page with the titles/areas/king key words listed, combined with the search functionality might be a better alternative

or if it's like the "belt's thing" mebbee it wouldn't ;)

I think its a good idea not to set n00bs up for flaming, but that's just me, or is it?

Regards

I've updated the FAQ thread in the lounge to make it more obvious how the reputation/comments sytem works. I'm also going to ask the admins to change the FAQ link (at the top) to point to this thread.

You should add that while a restricted user, you can't add (visible) comments to posts.

(I know you did this at a later point in the FAQ, but it should be moved to the list at the top.)

Also add about the Shoutbox and how users with less than 90/100 can't post to that

And with that the FAQ committee was formed in a puff of logic ;)

ok some more updates added :)

good little edwin.

he's such a help, isn't he :)

All done - the FAQ link now points to the FAQ thread in the lounge. This will soon be the same across the other sites in the developershed network too. I'll also add a link to the vbulletin FAQs from the FAQ thread, just in case anyone still wants to access those FAQs.
