This forum could use [FUNC] tags

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to say something like "Check out mysql_connect()"? I often find myself copy and pasting it as a link, but since this forum is all about PHP, it could be useful to have the link hardcoded into a bb tag.

What do you think?

Mmmm that would be nice. If you made a typo in the function name then it wouldn't have a valid link.... But a nice idea regardless.

But if you make a typo in any link you don't have a link! :p  :p

lmao, good point.

How about a [!@#$%&] tag that automatically links to the "How to post a question" sticky?

That one gets my vote.

Not a bad idea, but there are many other languages discussed here besides PHP. I think something like make_script_secure_from_hackers() would be better. [func=perl], [func=c#], etc...

Also, contact the PHP developers and have them write that function, many people need it! ;)

Moving to Suggestions forum, btw.

I just link to www.php.net/func_name - if I type it wrong, php.net searches the site for it and suggests what it should have been.

I so wish that other languages had a similar quick lookup system.

I think there is already an amazon.com hack, basically if you type ASIN-CODE it links to the correct page, and some of the versions put the picture of the item in as well (clickable).

perhaps a hack like that could be modified to be str_replace or something?

I hate to have to link to this site :) but here is an example of how we could possible do it, and there is problilty already a vb hack for it http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode

oh hell, when is that google one going to be made. I'm drooling over that! when someone asks an easy question, just format hard drive in XP

Ooh, that would be beautiful. Is it really in the works?

Generalizing it like that does make sense. I was talking specifically PHP. It could also be the case that [func] in the PHP forum links to the PHP function, and [func] in the Perl forum links to perl functions.

But I like your idea better.

Would definitely be cool to see [igrep] and/or [google] BBCode
implemented...

phpbb has had that hack out for a while....

it doesn't even need a hack. This took me about two minutes to do:

ahh I see. yep, admins, just create a new BBCode in the BBCode Manager!
