do any ofyou mac folks know what firewall software is best? i need something pretty heavy-duty, especially around my little girl. thanks for any help you can give...

Hi cee,

OSX comes with a firewall installed (shorewall IIRC?). If you have a look at your settings in the "Sharing" preference pane of the configuration tool, you'll see how to turn it on (should be on by default though). Also make sure you've got all unnecessary services (web sharing, ftp, telnet, ssh - whatever you don't need) turned off.

The default install of OSX is reasonably well locked down compared to your standard windows install.

See here:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/security/

If you do want that extra level of protection, it's probably better to pick up a cheap hardware firewall, rather than rely on a software one.

Cheers,
Simon
