Strange problem with Mac OS X.2

I seem to be having a strange problem with my mac at the moment and im hoping someone will be able to help me as I am reluctant to re install everything  I seem to not be abl to drag any files from the desktop, though i am able to select them and open them fine I cant move them. A similar thing is happening with every dragging option. Does anyone have a clue to what has happened, what I have done or how to fix it? please :D

Hello Miss Piper.

I'm not exactly sure what is causing this but I'll try to help. It sounds like it is most likely a 'permissions' problem.

Open Disk Utility and run 'Repair Permissions' on the hard drive.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility

Double click on the hard drive icon on the desktop (normally called Macintosh HD)
Find and open the "Applications" folder
Find and open the "Utilities" folder
Find and double click on "Disk Utility"
Click and highlight "Macintosh HD" in the left side of the Disk Utility window.
Click on the "First Aid" tab at the top of the Disk Utility window.
Click "Repair Disk Permissions" and wait.
When it has completed (5+ mins) restart the machine and check to see if the problem still exists.

Running "Repair permissions" fixes a lot of 'glitches' in OSX no matter what version you are running. This should always be your 'first stop' when you are having problems.

Let me know if this works.
Good luck.

David.
