Looking for email stripping program for Macs

Hi folks, I am a Mac user from way back. My husband and six children are all Mac addicts as well. I am writing this on an iLamp; our "old" iMac is in my husband's office, a Performa is in my office, and our home contains at least six other Macs from Classic on up! I find it frustrating when software is offered for PCs but not the Mac. A friend sent me a link to emailStripper (http://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htm), a program to remove the annoying ">" and page breaks from email replies and forwards. Unfortunately, it does not work on the Mac. :(

Anybody know of a similar program for Macs?

Hi Chocklit - Have you looked at using TextSOAP from here? (http://www.unmarked.com/html/index.php)

There's also ElfData's Email Stripper here (http://www.elfdata.com/index.html?http://www.elfdata.com/emailcleaner/)

Unfortunately, neither of these are free (but do appear to offer trial / limited usage ). This should get you started :)

I haven't used any of these programs but what exactly do you want in the program? I should be able to whip something up for you over the next few days depending on how complex the task is – for free of course :).

Merry Xmas all,

Mark.

Yeah - shouldn't be too hard to write an applescript to replace all '>''s... might take 30 minutes :)

Definitely! It wouldn't take long using Cocoa either (maybe an hour or so.). Easy enough to set it up as a droplet too... still, I'm not a huge fan of Applescript for some reason  [Lacks good OOP].

Python or perl [Also lacks good OOP] would be good for a command line tool too :).

Sorry Kathy I didn't write the program in the end due to a lack of interest :). Anyway, tell me what you want from the program and I'll see what I can do. If you could post a small mock email before and after it might also help.

I would appreciate any help.
thanks

Sorry it's taking so long, I don't have much free time now that christmas is over but I have mocked out the strip program as Python script, which can be used right now if you have any experience with Terminal/Unix and I plan to start the Cocoa version a little later on today :).

Mark.

I've finished the 0.1 Alpha version and have attached it to this thread, currently it is working although it lacks some of the flashy features you might want in this kind of program i.e. for it to be Applescriptable. I'll continue to work on improving it whenever I have any free time.

The Zip archive also contains the original Python program, this could be useful if you know how to use the Unix command line :).

Any feedback would be most welcome!

Mark.
