First major program in C

Hey yo!

I made this program in regular C language. It's just a text adventure on a console interface with some color :). You can select your class, race, ect and fight. It is actually far from complete, and I won't work in this project ever again, for I have better ideas now, and I want to map once again now. This project was actually for a school project, but I now post it here to see what you think. I know, there are some problem with it, there are interruptions in-game that tell you what isn't finished ect.. that I added in.

I know the game isn't nessarily balanced or fair as magic can be overpowerring and other things. Anyway toward the end of this project I wasn't as serious so started the rush, which caused me to add jokes :). Anyway, there is some sound effects when you shoot your guns on your turn ect. The sounds are very familar :). I suggest hard difficutly level, and still isn't hard enough if you know what you're doing and choose good skills.

Anyway have fun, I guess, but remember it's my first C project, and I'm noob. I know the menu's loop if you spam, but I didn't get around to going to fix it...

BE SURE YOU PLACE IT DIRECTLY IN C:\
there will be the CosmosII folder, you must do this in order for the sound to play.

That's pretty cool. How long did it take you to make it ?

took just over a month.

Looks pretty clean.

You should make it web based. That'd be sweet.

Hi,

nice work DarkMortar.

You may be interested in the Roguelike Development (http://roguelikedevelopment.org/) site. It contains lots of dev articles about text based fantasy/scifi games. The site covers everything from level design, level implementation, line of site algorithms, ai etc etc.

Displeaser

thank you for the comments. I'd love to make it web-based to, but if only I even knew how :( :(

My ultimate goal is to have this be in a windows API, and have an overview map with "squares" of land the player sees, and as he would go near the edge, more of the map is revealed. All squares of land would be terrain or buildings ect. It would be like a drag n' drop thing. And I wish I could somehow incorperate online play... more ultimatly a win API MMORPG w/ a server! ok id better stop now, on what i wish i could do, but i cant do it yet. :(

that'd be sweet. It's good to have dreams and plans of things u want to do. otherwise programming is no fun. This is a good start! I'm sure you could use the basics of it to turn it into something more.

This guy's smart -- he's starting simple. It's EXTREMELY difficult to make a good game these days, and it's often the temptation of a newbie to want to immediately make "an awesome first person shooter" or "an RPG just like Baldurs Gate, but with better graphics". That usually leads to discouragement and boredom, when the realization hits that making a game is a lot of work, and requires more than just programming skills.

But I think the smart ones start extremely simple and build confidence.

Hi does that contain source code too? Just like to have a look...

By the way can we download this from sourgeforge or codeproject?

nyway this looks cool and simple thing at a glance, but must be done with 100s of lines behind it..

Absolutely awesome, well done. I am standing by if you want someone to port this to browser based :)
