HTML Image Splitter

Now that I've finalized my software and figured out what I want my website to be able to do I plan to redo the website so that it is better looking. Figure since it is a personal site want to use real images of people and landscape. Right now it's fairly boring. Functional yes, but not very luring. Any recommendations on image splitters? You know a program that breaks an image into smaller fragments and constructs a table where each cell is a piece.

thanks, SJP

Why not use CSS instead of tables? No need to chop up your image.

This article (http://www.alistapart.com/articles/sprites/) might be of interest.

Also, sometimes the original, big image is smaller than its constituent images.

Thanks for the follow up. I think I won't bother with an HTML splitter. I particular like that article Tom you posted. Not because I am going to implement their CSS, but something else that was mentioned turned on a lightbulb. That is 'position:absolute' is relative to the enclosing box and NOT the left edge of the screen. On my home page it would be nice to do away with the plain text boxes for forms and such and underlay an image that had them cut out instead. I got some other ideas, but the main thing is to improve esthetics. Thanks guys.
