Will any Android phone run any Android OS version?

Most Android devices only support one version of the Android OS, although hardware manufacturers will sometimes provide support for upgrading to a newer version.

Because of the open nature of the Android OS it is often possible to install unsupported versions of the OS on a rooted device, although not all features of the device or OS may function correctly when doing this and you will probably void any sort of official support (and possibly warranty) you might have had by doing it.
