Trashing Spam

Dang, I hate spam and those who send it, I must get 200 junk mails a day, and if I not dumping those, the phones ringing with those other idiots tring to sell me crap I would never think of buying, even if I needed it ...... my question is .... I've taking the e-mail address that most of the trash is addressed to and in the control panel, im forwarding to dev/null , but in testing I get a no know user e-mail back, is there a way to just have the spam deleted and not send a response back to the phony jerks that send this crap out? What a waist of time and resources for everyone ...

BTW, if anyone would like to recieve my trash mail, I'll gladlt forward it to you .... didn't think so .....

Rick, what you may want to try is instead of blocking the specific email, just don't have a default entry in your redirect list. If there is no default, then any email not sent to a valid redirect address, or a valid POP account for your domain will just disappear into the ether. This of course means less leniency for miss-spelled emails sent to you, but prevents the abuse of a "catch-all" email account as well.

Rick,

You might want to check out our solution at:

It is a "wrap-around" and front-end for SpamAssassin that puts the whitelisting and blacklisting outside of the SA user_prefs file. And you can permanently white/blacklist with one mouse-click. It also works great with "catch-all" mailboxes or forwarded mail from other mailboxes.

rick,

Apart from the two solutions suggested above, you might want to check out my procmail tips here: http://forums.westhost.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=151

It is a very powerful "mail filtering" method... And works great with SpamAssassin (you'll see the example and understand why I say this). You can use it to send mail to /dev/null too :D
