multiple ip's 1 vps

if i were to have a few ips & wanted it to set on 1 particular vps then i should edit the httpd.conf file right ? it will work & then just restart it ?

No, a VDS can only have one IP.

but i thought since each vds can host multiple domains, i just edit the httpd.conf file to insert in the newly purchased IP ?
Sorry but my case would be I plan to purchase additional IP's for few of my name based accounts, so after purchasing I would like to just edit the conf file & put in the IP, is that just it ?
or am i missing sometin, but i'm not too sure anyway if that is how it works.

Maybe a confusion of terminology?

An IP address is, e.g. 111.222.333.444
If you mean 'domain name' instead of IP, then yes, you can do what you want.

A VDS can either be name based (which means it shares the IP with other VDS) or IP based (which costs extra, but then you have your own IP number).

You can host multiple sites on one IP by telling the DNS that all those sites point to one IP. On the site, then Apache is set to recognize which site domain is really needed by the domain name in the headers and an entry in the Virtual Servers.

sorry but i think i explained it wrongly, I thought on the reselleraddon package I could just purchase additional IP's for my current name based vps and with those IP's I just edit it in the conf file to replace the current shared IP with the newly purchase IP.

I've submitted a ticket & it says I'll have to get a new IP based vds if I want to go that way, cant edit it directly in the conf file, it wont work properly as replied.

So i guess i'll have to get the addon ip vps.

thanks Jalal
