Start with a clean slate...

Hi,

How can I have one of my site accounts recreated so that I have an entirely default and virgin system folder without losing the IP address it has had for the last few years? I know I will have to close the site down for a while and backup all files and databases so I can then restore it on the newly recreated system, but I can't figure out how to do this in the control panel. I tried to create a duplicate domain account so that I could configure it and then delete the old one, but it will not let me. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There is no way that we can do this via the tools we have. You would need to contact WestHost and see if perhaps there is some way they could accommodate you. I am not sure that even they well be able to retain the IP for you.

Perhaps if you explained a bit more why you are wanting a "virgin system folder" and what you mean by that we can come up with some other solution for you.

Thanks for responding Shawn. One of the reasons why I would like to start fresh is that I've had a developer working on an app that we just can't get to work properly with Tomcat and over the years many changes were made to several key system files and various unused files are littered throughout. We were thinking that going back to the stock install would make for a better starting point.

Perhaps I am making a mistaken assumption, but I figured that changing IP addresses now may have a negative impact on my search rankings...? Either way, I guess I'll just go ahead and delete the account and then recreate it and see where it takes me. Thanks again.

I've had a few changes in IP's on accounts through the years and it has never really seemed to impact the search engine rankings for those sites. I don't think it well be that big of a deal.

Thank you again for your help. I'm in the process of backing up and recreating the account as I type so it's almost done. All the best.
