Servers

Well, I have read a little on PHP, but I unfortunatly cannot make my own server or afford pay hosting. Does anyone know any free web hosting sites that allow PHP?

wgy cant you set up a server on your comp? if you really cant go and do a search on www.freewebspace.net (not com, that is a free host) and use the power search and select php. that should get you going

wgy cant you set up a server on your comp?

Well, like I said with paid hosting. I cannot afford it. I do not have the hardware for it. I also can't afford anything higher than 56k or having the extra phone line added. Besides, I wouldn't know the first thing about setting one up...

i thin kyouve got the wrong end of the stick about servers! you dont need to be conected to the internet to have a server, all you need is a nice friendly server like abyss from www.aprelium.com and read their documentation, you dont need to pay for a serer on your compeither. anybody canmake a server out of their computer but having people come on to it is another story. yes setting up s server is daunting, i tried apache first and got completly lost but with abss you cant go wrong! then after youve setup abss go to www.php.net and download the windows version underexe format, install it (ignoring maybe the SMTP or mail options it pops up) and then configue abyss to run the PHP parser. and there you go! youve got a server all you need to fo now is start up the server from start>programs>abyss server and then to go into your computer just type http://localhost in your browser and your on your your own web server. nothing much to it (although i may have lost you at the start :p). good luck

you dont need to be conected to the internet to have a server,

kinda helps though :)

check out tripod.com pretty sure they offer PHP in their free package

the thing is he's aon a 56k modem and time is money with PHP (i know i had to pay all my internet bills when i had a 56kso PHP was out of the question. but a server is nothing hard to handle its only the name that sounds big ;)

I got an account with Tripod.co.uk or whatever it was... They allow PHP, and the only problem I have with it is their pop-up ad. I don't really need o worry about bandwidth, because I am only using it for testing/working on php.. I am not gonna create a whole site using it yet. So, for right now, I don't need a server...

Thanks for all the help anyways, I will keep the Abyss server stuff in mind for later...

:D :D :D :D

man! do you know what your going to put your modem through, uploading and modifying code is serious speed munching! and it costs money if your on 56k! and anyway bandwidth is unlimited on tripod :D

If all you need is a server to develop/test php with you can set up a web server on your own computer. Firepages, my fellow mod developed an easy to install and set up package for doing just that:

http://www.firepages.com.au/

Just download phpdev4 and if you have questions you can ask them right here.

and it costs money if your on 56k!

Well, You seem ot have had different payment plans with 56k, I actually only pay a monthly bill, with endless hourse of use allowed :D

I am right now using Tripod, and besides, I plan to expand with PHP as I learn, so I will still be using the account to be linked to by other pages....

I will look into getting my computer to realise PHP itself though, because I will still like to edit it without needed to be online.. *sigh*

Thanks EVERYONE again for ALL YOUR HELP! This is my first time actually asking for it, I learned all my HTML on my own, and now I know I can get good help if I needed it :)
