Hi i want to make each threads row an alternative colour so the top thread in a forum is say blue then the next is red the blue again. i want the whole row to be the colour so thats the behind the post icon behind thread name views posts and lastposts colums

That would require making new classes in the CSS for each different thead color. Then just adding the class name to the <td> of the thead you want (it's easier in forumhome templates; in forumdisplay it can be a bear as you'll have to hunt down it's threadbit and put the color changes in there).
Just make sure to copy the same settings to each new class as the original, or it can get out of alignment (smaller/larger text; padding wrong, etc).
