Where to get photos for web design?: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP

I am looking for photos to add to new websites I am designing. I am against taking someone else photos and using them for my self. So where can I get some for free use or a small royalty fee?

I am guessing you mean free stock photos and not animattions and stuff. If you do a search on google for "free stock photos" you will find some places that will let you use them. Just be careful about reading the Conditions of Use. If you go to http://www.deviantart.com they also have a stock photo section.
-dk

I have a search, so many conditions. I need to use them on clients websites. On most places are vary poor on there layout of the photos, spend hours going through each page, and nothing good. Some on needs a one stop place.

You know what they say... you get what you pay for :)
-dk

well, most PC magazines actually bundle free photos with there monthly issues, so just try going for that....or ask your mates for back issues or something...I think PC Plus does it...not that sure tho!

try http://photos.com they have a load of royalty-free stock photos for people to use.

Funny how exactly what your looking for is consildated in a single address ;)

here is another that has both royalty free and fee photos
http://www.indexstock.com/default.asp

if you're looking for a quality photo youcan get it from http://creative.gettyimages.com/imagebank/, eventhought you h\might have to pay for it,

FInding photos of Computer Servers is a pain in the ---. I have never spent so much time looking for on e spcific picture. All these photo sites are a joke, hugh database, with not one good picture of a server. It takes time to go through 600 pictures on each site. When you come across something it is $50 and up to use a picture. For this money and time looking, I could have taken a picture myself and edit it in photoshop. That is what I will do. I do not know who would pay such money for the photos. wow good to get that off my chest. lol :)

Are you looking for something like this:

Yes That is what I am looking for!!! Where di you get it at?

i got it from google image search
it may be copyrighted but im sure if you ask for permission from whoever owns it then you would probably be able to use it

just make sure you put a 'Copyright Blah Blah' at the bottom of the page, but only if they ask :P

I found an awsome resource for images that has come in handy on many an occasion: www.istockphoto.com

It's free to sign up, but you pay per download with download credits. You can buy packages of credits in $10, $20, $50, and $100 amounts. $100 is the best value if you have a lot of future projects: you get 250 downloads for $100!

enjoy

Hey, you all! Try www.imagebank.com !

I am working on a photography site that has photos for commercial use. Only a small data base but lots of great landscape pics of New Zealand and Austaralia as well as many other catagories. On line soon at www.andrewwhyte.com You may find something on it you like. All photos are my work.

Some great places are
istockphotos.com
gettyimages (not sure of URL, possibly gettyimages.com)
You can find a lot of great galleries on google, or, many web designers have portfolios of photography for sale.

I get a 404 error when i try that link

Grrrr...the site was there 2 days ago! Strange.

I know quite a few designers that use images from mags, books, whatever, scan them and change them a bit, or whatever. I would probably not recommend getting into a habit about this, but sometimes it can help when you are in a pinch. Very tricky subject this though... copyright and what to use/not to use.

Just be careful with that...

www.digitalvision.com has a wicked collection. Full of broadcast motion graphics, vector graphics, animations, music, photography... If you jump on their site you can have them send you a free catalog full of samples (I would recommend getting one, it is good for generating ideas if nothing else) Go check them. I don't know what their prices are like, but I think you can buy individual images from them for not too much.

Well, I don't think anyon mentioned this one yet - the mother of a all stock photo searches - http://www.creativepro.com/eservices/imagegrabber - it has a meta search of multiple photo sources, including Getty and many others. Very handy.

Thanks Zewy that's an awesome site.

I actually just broke down and bought a clip art package that includes a lot of photos.

wow...nice list ilikechikin

Try www.dreamstime.com , they're new but have some great stuff in there. The price is only $1 and the resolution is flawless. I use them for all my web or DTP work.
I used getty before but they are really expensive.

Why pay $40 for one image when I can get it for $1?

http://www.sxc.hu/ is a mirror of stock.d2.hu , and my personal fav. Lots here too, along with many other great (free) resources: http://www.bluevertigo.com.ar/bluevertigo.htm
:)

Thanks for the huge list Chrissy. Now my afternoon is gonna be spent looking through photos. :(

If you feel difficult to download some big image from the site, you can use Quick Screen Capture (http://www.etrusoft.com) to capture the photo from your browser.

Or for those who can't be bothered downloading more programs that do something windows already has by default:

Press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard then past into the graphics app of your choice.

Hello, you can try http://clipart.com

I am looking for photos to add to new websites I am designing. I am against taking someone else photos and using them for my self. So where can I get some for free use or a small royalty fee?

I just found a great new site from coolhomepages, it's called www.bigstockphoto.com. I really liked the beautiful photos--they are dirt cheap - about a $1-2. I really like that I can use the photos on my templates--one feature istock doesn't have.

What kind of photos do you need?

what sort of photos are people looking for - i am interested becuase i would like to set up a website to provide same

I personally find hemera.com perfect for my needs, they offer relatively good images, with a cheap price tag.

IiE Web Design (http://www.iie-webdesign.com)
Image is Everything, especially when it comes to your web presence!!

Best resource I have found so far for absolutely FREE photos for websites (commercial and non commercial use) is www.morguefile.com it's well organized and tons of photos, all the people ask in return is that you to let them know where you use their photos so they can see how they are being used!! I even have some photos there (GoodKarma is the username)... but please please please take the second required to send the photographer a note to let them know where you have used their pics...
Histrionic

Great place to get textures and background images as well as other photos. http://www.texturephoto.com

pls i want it 4 free to play games and put pic in my web

This is a bit cheaper than most places because it is user-submitted, but let me just say that they only accept quality work. The high-standards that shutterstock puts into place, will make sure you arent wasting your money. Give it a try.
http://www.shutterstock.com/?rid=7119

Good luck!

hey just create your own design of pictures...

Best place for high quality and inexpensive Royalty Free Stock Photography is http://www.istock.com you can get the low res stuff for a buck a pop.

there is a good site for that www.freefoto.com
Thank you

Found this one a few days ago, but forgot about this thread.
It's http://nix.nasa.gov - Make sure to read the Copyright notice though.

I've used photos.com and if you are getting work it's a good deal. But the selection is pretty lousy so it helps to be good at PShop image manipulation. Most of the time I use multiple photos to make a single image - which is why photos.com is good since they have an unlimited subscription for the year.

Also, charge your clients.

Try
www.new-freephotos.com (http://www.new-freephotos.com)
quality, useful stock photos free for private and commercial use

yeah I use gettyimages sometimes as well but take note it's a bit expensive

go to www.deviantart.com -- but u have to ask permission of the owner to use the image or designs.

visit my website: www.spaceman.coms.ph

http://www.sxc.hu

just out of interest, what kind of photos are you looking for - anything in particular. I get all my photos from a digital camera =D heh sometimes you just have to go do it yourself. I often find there are no good photos of what i need so i finally got round to gettin a camera and now i do it myself.

i think that the microsoft clipart gallery is royalty free and i know they have a shed load of photos n stuff in there. Can't remeber the exact URL but its gonna be microsoft.com/office or something. Peace buddy.

Use www.istockphoto.com

They have good photos and they only charge a couple bucks for each one.

Been in this boat, used canstockphoto.com for a bit, i guess its like istockphoto, who knows maybe the same thing.

It's surprising that you can buy EXCLUSIVE pics (only you have the rights) to hardcore naked women for cheaper than a license to use a picture of a bluebird or whatever, lol go figure

http://www.sxc.hu/
It's already been mentioned, but it's great. Large database, and most of the images are free for use, and the others you just need to get in contact for approval!

Basically I would stay away from "free" images. They usually aren't worthwhile at all. There are places however that you can get cheap photos like this place:
http://www.bigstockphoto.com less than $2.50 for individual downloads and if you buy a bunch of credits at once it just gets cheaper. Seriously... spend the $2.50 to get a quality image instead of some cheap thing.
http://trendybox.net

I don't see why you advise staying away from free images... http://www.sxc.hu/ is free and it's fine.

A Really great and totally free resource I have found is www.morguefile.com (http://www.morguefile.com) They have a search function which generally gets the photo's that you want. All the photo's are user submitted and free for commercial use as well.

Hope this helps!

program, i think its called digital camera ;)

A great source of items for web design is:

http://www.blemeshack.com/

They have a Search Engine that lets you search other sites for graphics, images, Video, Flash, Sounds, etc. It's more of a meta search engine site than a particular database - because they index other sites.

There is also a tool to let you store the code to images and graphics you find, to create a personal collection.

Joe

Flash Search Engine (http://www.blemeshack.com/)

seems to have alot in flash and images / graphics

hey go to google images you should get what ever image you want

It's where all images go after they are not in use anymore.
This site is AWSOME!! It has everything. -Elli

Are google images free for commercial use or are some of them copywrited?
Thanks -Elli

Google images are pulled from web pages and you should assume that they are all copyrighted.

----
A note to Nathan (spiderindia)--I got your spam email today:

"...I went through your website , its looking quite old and outdated ... would like to update your website with some additional features like online sales..."

Pretty rude to send to a professional web development company, especially since you obviously didn't visit the website in question as there is nothing there to sell so adding online sales would be pretty pointless, wouldn't it?

iStockphoto's collection is massive. I have been trying to get my pics uploaded for the past year, but no luck. They seem to be quite fussy on the quality of images to be uploaded. Are all stock photo sites like this? They have denied my 'maximum quality' jpg and raw image files, all according to their size specs, and said it 'is not up to standard' ... or something like that. I dont understand. I assume it all depends on the technology of your digi camera (more than 5 mega pixels)

On the other hand, I'm glad iStockPhoto is now providing resources for flash designers.

Must go check them other sites out.

Thanks gnubler.

"Standards" is both technical and artistic standards. If they aren't accepting yoou photos and they meet the technical requirements, then the picture itself doesn't fit the sort of images they are looking for.

hey u tri 2 http://www.corbis.com for purchase quality stock photoes.

well i know a few sites where you can get nice images like
1. www.creatas.com
2. www.corbis.com (good one)
3. www.gettyimages.com (another good one).

apart from these there is veer, alamy etc
they all are good. few are free and few needs money for reg and if you dnt then you have to deal with the water mark. corbis is real good. i use d the images from corbis on my site http://pixel007.ifastnet.com

Well, I don't think anyon mentioned this one yet - the mother of a all stock photo searches - http://www.creativepro.com/eservices/imagegrabber - it has a meta search of multiple photo sources, including Getty and many others. Very handy.

This is similar to my project ImageTrail (http://www.imagetrail.net), it indexes multiple microstock agencies (the cheap ones like iStockPhoto, Dreamstime, Fotolia, etc). It allow people to license and price shop. We have tried to make it simple, like Google images, but the results are actually legal to use (once a license is purchased from the agencies).

You should make sure to read the license whenever you acquire a stock image. Most things are allowable, but some have "weirdnesses" that they don't allow (some allow templates, some don't).

I would also agree that both free and "Google" images are dangerous. The only free site I trust is sxc.hu because as a submitter I know that they actually look at the images they accept. They also have a model release ability. Don't use pictures of people without a model release! Even if you are half way around the world from the model, you can get sued.

web site design and development (http://www.adalmi.com)

I use iStockPhoto too, I think they have good quality of photos at very reasonable price, if it's just for web, usually cost about 1 dollar.

Otherwise, Microsoft Office sometime has good images too.

Hi there,

I am not sure if anyone else has mentioned this site or not but I use this one all the time and it is great! I think it is called Stockxchange (http://www.sxc.hu) . You need an account, you don't have to pay but I think it is a sharing based program whereas you would upload photos for other people to use, but between you and I, I've never uploaded a photo.

It's the best so far that I have seen anyway.

Melinda

I second istockphoto.com

There is a good selection and they are low cost - a few dollars for each photo depending on the resolution you want to download.

Well, as for me, i try to get simple images by shooting them myself, but if i need a more complex photo, i.e. illustrating a concept of some kind or a picture of an exotic place in the world, i try to download it / buy it..

As free site, sxc.hu (http://scx.hu) is not bad, but not really impressive variety.

From time to time i download images from free sections of microstock sites..

Here are my favorite ones:

Istock (http://istockphoto.com) - seems to be the most powerful one to me but not the cheapest.

Dreamstime (http://www.dreamstime.com/res59697) - has nice exclusive photo sales (see the "sell the rights" licensing mode).

Shutterstock (http://www.shutterstock.com/?rid=54872) - has a good subscription system. But really, i use it if i need large amounts of cheap photos for a big project or for many simultaneous projects. Per-photo sales are present, but not as cheap as on other sites. Probably, i'll buy a subscription there soon just to get a collection of conceptual photos which are used most of the time.

Bigstock (http://www.bigstockphoto.com/?refid=VdFbcmn2Hm) - generally i use it to sell photos, but sometimes find some useful graphics.

Fotolia (http://fotolia.com/partner/6564) - seems to me a bit different from other stock sites with a nice collection. Though, maybe not a very friendly search system, but i think, they'll fix it soon.

Stockxpert (http://stockxpert.com) - is much like sxc.hu, but not free. Seems to work on the same web engine.

Albumo (http://www.albumo.com/affiliate-referral/507/home) - is a new one, probably have to wait some time until it's filled with stuff.

Additionally, i find the pay sites useful when i need photos of people - i do not have to bother with model releases and permissions of any kind..

I've created a page with all design content sources i know.

List of photo/vectors/video websites (http://designbeginshere.com)

Not really strong as design, i'll better work on its database.
Will add more links soon.

I have always found good free images at the stock exchange:

http://www.sxc.hu/

You will need to register for a free account.

I hope this helps!

I really like http://www.bigstockphoto.com/

Well I guess you are looking for free photo stuff. If your choice is also Bollywood photos then take a look at www.worldglories.com

Check this web site www.worldglories.com this has good Bollywood photos of Aishwarya Rai,Diya Mirza,Sushmita Sen,Priyanka Chopra

There is free stock imagery available at my website: http://www.kmfpdx.com/imagery.html

I have an interesting collection of work made during my school years and shortly after.

Categories include: Wyoming landscape, rustic structures, cats, ephemeral, fabric, ethnic, sculpture, ceramics, abstractions, edgy, drawings, vector, Sephardic, and music theory including flash cards for key signatures, church modes, triads, seventh chords and a Pirate's Guide to Transposing Instruments and vocal exercise.

I am guessing you mean free stock photos and not animattions and stuff. If you do a search on google for "free stock photos" you will find some places that will let you use them. Just be careful about reading the Conditions of Use. If you go to http://www.deviantart.com they also have a stock photo section.

Basically, to use any of those images, you need to contact the author. that's not too much of a burden, since many a work on that site are great. the language shouldn't be a barrier, either.

well, most PC magazines actually bundle free photos with there monthly issues, so just try going for that....or ask your mates for back issues or something...I think PC Plus does it...not that sure tho!

I am looking for photos to add to new websites I am designing. I am against taking someone else photos and using them for my self. So where can I get some for free use or a small royalty fee?
1.
Carry camera along with you, whenever like you can click picture. You can use that for your website. Isn't it great idea??

2.
Search images online, i am not saying simply use it, if you like image you can edit in smart way( but avoid other's logo ).

Also, when you thinking to use image from other site then it will be good to check the copyright details.

You can google to find sites with collections of image or try flickr or stumbleupon.

i like to take pictures of stuff around me or near and use that,

::mod edit - no sigs just yet please, check the forum rules::

Don't know if anyone mentioned this... www.sxc.hu

I use that one for free photos, but if I am in a hurry I use www.imagetrail.net, simple interface and most are availible for $1

I use flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com) , TrekEarth (http://www.trekearth.com/) and Thailand Photo Gallery (http://www.thailand-travelonline.com/gallery/index.php) ^ ^

istockphoto is the great royalty free photos.

You can try istock and bigstock websites, they have good stock photography and wont break the bank.

The best way is to google for the pics you want, just type in the keywords what you want and walaaa....

Ok i agree not good to steal other peoples ideas and designs but... you could make your own pretty easily, adobe has some very good programs that do great work and if your willing to pay a small fee ($500 or so) to purchase some of adobes graphic desginning programs for websites/ images get fireworks cs3/4 and for high quility programs such as animie/manga level illustrator cs3/4, also I make some pretty good images (give me an idea of what you want and i could send you some free of charge just email me;

Ah yes, the problem of any web design (http://www.web-design-philippines.com/) person :)

I have bookmarked a few stock photo URLs. Hope some of these would be of great help to you. :)

- stockxching (http://www.sxc.hu/)

- everystockphoto (http://www.everystockphoto.com/)

- imagebase (http://imagebase.davidniblack.com/main.php)

- morguefile (http://www.morguefile.com/)

- openphoto (http://openphoto.net/)

- stockvault (http://www.stockvault.net/)

The second one is nice and new to me, though many photos are under attribution-requirement license - makes it less useable..

Just go to google.com or yahoo.com and search there photo , I hope that you can find photo

imagebank is quite good. I use this site

Just go to google.com or yahoo.com and search there photo , I hope that you can find photo
Personally, I don't think that is a good idea.
You never know where a photo came from when you just do a photo search.

Just go to google.com or yahoo.com and search there photo , I hope that you can find photo

This would breach the copy right of the image owner and get you in a load of trouble. This is the last thing any reputable web designer/developer would ever do.

Instead you should looking to stock photography sites. Firstly free ones like sxc.hu are a nice place to start.

If you can't find what you are looking for then pay. I personally use http://en.fotolia.com/. Its reasonably priced and to be honest, a few dollars for THE photo is a great investment.

If you do use google images then you should ask the photo owners permission before you use it.

Try searching in Free or Open domain. These photos should be entirely free and some of them are suprisingly good.

wow...those pictures are nice! thanks for the link!

elara, nice collection of sites.

[[deleted by mod :: new users aren't allowed signatures/links]]

I use BigStockPhoto as their photos are cheap, great quality, and most of all, they allow you to use their photos for templates. All they ask is that if you use the photos for another template for resale or to give away that you buy the photo again.

Very fair I think.

call a photographer :)

or digital vision or something depending on how much you want to spend

Well, I have been trying to post a new thread. It says I can, but when I go to the main area - it says I can't. I'm confused. Maybe the webmaster will move this email to a new thread?? and tell me how to do it in the future.?

Anyway, I am trying to find help on how to get a photo to enlarge on my Web site. I have used Photoshop Elements to size it to 40 k (as advised for web pages) but I want the picture to be large on my home page. Instead it is only about 4" square. The picture is in a frame that I have designated large enough, plus I have set the size in the html code. So where do I go to get help on this issue?

Thanks

just make sure you put a 'Copyright Blah Blah' at the bottom of the page, but only if they ask

I always use istock but you have to pay for using its images in your website. Finding genuine photos for free is really difficult.

most PC magazines actually bundle free photos with there monthly issues, so just try going for that....or ask your mates for back issues or something...I think PC Plus does it...not that sure tho!

Shameless plug as a first post, but I would like to suggest:

[deleted by mod :: new users aren't allowed links or to post shameless plugs for their own sites.]

[deleted by mod] is a new and growing FREE stock photo/clip art site with public domain, GNU, Creative Commons & custom licensed images.

I have dealt with several stock photography websites in the past but I feel that istockphotography has given the best quality to the dollar…

i just use http://images.google.com and get all what need by keywords

Hi all member,

your link are very useful for me. thanks for sharing this link.

Google can sometimes give good picture results, depending on the searches that you make...

That can lead to a lawsuit!

yes google or istock are the best

flickr is a better place to get countless pictures and if u want to use a different or a unique image than it's better if u merge 2,3 images and play right with the tool, u can have a good result.......

[Mod Edit - No signatures/advertising for non-established members.]

use stockxchange, those are free and it's completely legal. There's new technology where people can search for similar pictures

http://tineye.com/faq

If this technology explodes, everyone who every took copyrighted images will all get a big lawsuit. be forewarned guys, technology will be your undoing.

So are they trying to say, if I googled for an image, downloaded it, and chopped it up with photoshop to fit my needs they can track it back? I don't think so, with rendering, shading, format changes from jpg to png and so on there is no way in hell that would work.

Hey that simple on the field. You can get more collection on web. I had come across the same. Here i can suggest you something. Since you are looking for your own image, its better to go for a designer to create pictures, designs, photos, graphics and stuffs. Professional designers are available on field. You can also see something like [dele3ted by mod :: new users aren't allowed links] and more

Jami

well watch their video, it shows that they can. They've invented a technology, it's probably based off of the same technology that can do face recognition. Dude you have a lot to learn about computer technology. I graduated with a degree in computer science. people can do crazy things with artificial intelligence. You have no idea.

Actually Lab, if the jpeg photo was encoded with anything, then the data would carry on regards of how much you altered it and changed its file format. AI could be used to track this but other means can be used to. The science behind facial recognition is very impressive, and not easy to trick.

dude you have alot to learn? Dude I wrote my first dos program in 6th grade in 1987 and won an award for it, I write t-SQL and code in asp and php, fluently. I graduated in 1995 and have over 13 years experience in the real world of c++ .net and vb and c# programming for major companies here in the northeast, so... you may have alot to learn from me my friend.
All I'm saying is I don't see how this is possible, if I create a new JPG and copied a pic into it and heavily modified it, how can this be traceable? I'll admit not the guru in graphics as I am in development. But face recognition is a completely different beast, we're talking about encoding in a file. I'll research this on the web, if someone can explain exactly how this is possible other than "technology is there" please feel free.

That can lead to a lawsuit!

I totally agree. I hate all the licensing. you can't just google and take whatever picture you find suit. most of them are licensed pictures. I STICK with sources which I'm sure offer free to use photos.

Actually I'm learning photography myself, it is pretty handy in many situations in which finding a proper photo is either quite time consuming or expensive.

@John Kim

for the very first time i heard bout SXC thanks for it.....to sum extent i have found it better thn flickr.....we can have many similar picture results for the required stuff but stok xchang isn't dat user frndly dat's the only fault i found there....

There are plenty of sites where u can get royalty free stock images. I often use this one. http://sxc.hu/
Good luck.

Hi, You can visit this http://photos.com here you get photos for web design.

I like http://dreamstime.com I have used many photos and graphics from that site.

your best bet is to use a stock photo site. Code CAN in fact be embedded into an image. Malicious people embed trojans into jpegs all the time, which in turn anything can be embedded into anything...if you know how to manipulate a file...

My best source is google images the only problem with that is that they're not all royalty-free, but if I can't find what I need else where. Then I try to reach the artist to get permission.

Another resource for free stock photos:

http://www.webphotomart.com

You just need to pay attention to the license information listed with each image.

But not all images in deviant art are free right? Can they charge you with copyright infringement if you use their images, even if it doesn't have any watermark on it?:eek2:

I am facing the same problem here. In most of the cases sites demand a good amount of price for using their images or at least we have to get registered which is all the most nagging but there is hardly any alternative there.

I use Official Psd to get my stock images and photos i need for a website

Always follow the rule: if you didn't make it - it's not yours. IF / BEFORE you buy it - read the terms.

Hi

Try istock.com they have thousands of images and they are quite reasonably priced too.

I understand why you'd be worried if you were building up some kind of massive website that would be viewed by thousands each day but most of us guys here are just working on small projects and so I don't think the owners of the pictures would want/expect any money - its just good manners to let them know...

Oh and Hi! My first post :D

Well, there are too many ways of getting photos for the web designing like you can download from the internet and you can also makes photos by own but the important thing is that the photo should be related to your website design and its theme, it means that the photos should reflect the whole idea of your website...

The biggest thing is don't steal other people's work.

Its not free but Web Designer magazine usually comes with a disc and has some pretty good pictures every month

You'll need to subscribe to some sites.

I use fotosearch.com or clipart.com the most. It's really important to get royalty free photos as you don't want to get your site banned for breach of copyright.

[URL="http://www.makeyourownwebsiteeasy.com"]

http://www.sxc.hu is a good stock photo site. Generally, the restrictions are that you can't integrate the photos into a logo or use them in explicit material. Search StumbleUpon.com for "Stock Photos" and you'll find a myriad of resources.

istockphotos.com Went here. Nothing showing. Nothing has been uploaded.

Dear, you can also give it a try to find royalty free images at corbis

[Moderator edit - No signatures / advertising for non-established members.]

Like a few posters have mentioned istockphoto.com are very good and are very affordable

Hey,
Here are some suggestions.
1.First search in Google by jotting down the keywords, 'free stock photos'. Go thru then and follow the
instructions.
2. You can also search by name 'cheap stock photo' or 'low cost stock images'.

I hope this will help you solve the problem.

Dewan Shuvo, Tradexcel Graphics.

Try this site. Most of the photos here are royalty free with minor conditions for use. www.sxc.hu/home

www.sxc.hu has good quality royalty free images that you can download for free

If you don't mind paying a few dollars for images then try iStockPhoto and VivoZoom. They even have warranties that cover you up to a set amount if you get sued for using their images. If you are looking for free images then try Stock.XCHNG, StockVault and OpenPhoto.

I am looking for photos to add to new websites I am designing. I am against taking someone else photos and using them for my self. So where can I get some for free use or a small royalty fee?

You can search it on google! there are lots of free photos to add your website!

You can search it on google! there are lots of free photos to add your website!
He said he doesn't want to take someone else's photos, and using Google image search to source photos is exactly that.

I didn't read through everybody, but I sometimes compete at pxleyes.com and they have a nice little selection of royalty free stock images that users have donated. I also get some from morguefile and some from wikicommons just make sure you check the photo to see if the user has put any restrictions on it. Some people like just a heads up you are using there work, others don't care.

Try this one mate...

http://www.easy-share.com/1910103700/vector_collection_images.zip

Soon there will be more uploads

I use fotolia.com. I have found them to be the cheapest place for stock photos. You can also google for free photos and maybe find some cool stuff.

You can change the settings in google images search to display only photos that you can use. You may have to double check these but that is one idea.

quick search in Google or bing will find you thousands of sites but most are just scrapers that grab sites that might get you in trouble.

best option is to grab some photos from istckphoto and professionally redesign and add to as needed

http://www.istockphoto.com
http://www.shutterstock.com

I am guessing you mean free stock photos and not animattions and stuff. If you do a search on google for "free stock photos" you will find some places that will let you use them. Just be careful about reading the Conditions of Use. If you go to all inclusive vacations (http://bookit.com/travel-ideas/all-inclusive/vacations/) they also have a stock photo section.

I try to take photo from WWW.Websitetemplates.bz

The best place I found is www.image-reseller.com
They have a 25 free pack to see what they are like
plus you can download the thumbnails too.

Great photos at a resonable price. Plus they come
with resale rights and/or private label right.

I like it because they are very flexible with their
photos.

We use istockphoto.com. Their photos are good and very reasonable. For web resolution, you won't spend more than $3 or $4 on a single image.

you can get it from istockphotos having great collections

Check out this link - It lists the top 25 free stock photo sites... Enjoy!

http://www.digitalimagemagazine.com/blog/featured/25-free-stock-photo-sites/

If you really want some good images and pics for your website design (http://www.arttechstudio.com/). Flickr.com i think would be the best. I signed up and some emails were passed to me with some good quality images depending on your preference.

Photographs are a great way to dress up a website. They add color and liveliness to pages and are just fun. But unless you're a professional stock photographer, chances are you don't have a lot of photos of anything except your family, friends, vacations, and pets. But don't despair, there are lots of ways to get photos for Web pages.Flickr and Other Online Photo Sharing Sites

A best website designing (http://www.morphacademy.com/)

I am guessing you when you start your website you don't looking image other. This is the duplicate way. Off course u create new image for your website and it's easy to u because u are graphic design.

Clipping Path (http://www.clippingpathindia.com/), Clipping Paths (http://www.clippingpathindia.com/), enjoy this.

I usually use:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Pictures_and_images
http://www.sxc.hu/home

They are good and usually without copyrights.

i got it from google image search
it may be copyrighted but im sure if you ask for permission from whoever owns it then you would probably be able to use it
Ya, google image search can give you the right choice for your taste ;) also you can get a huge variety of images here

Ya, google image search can give you the right choice for your taste ;) also you can get a huge variety of images here

Just be sure to ask for permission. I had a large t-shirt company (Ouray Sportswear) steal one of my images and make a t-shirt from it. The only way I knew was, I happened to be in a t-shirt shop in Tombstone Arizona and I saw a shirt with my image on it!! I talked to the vice president and he told me that the designer must have gotten the image from google images. I had to contact a lawyer.

Clipping Path (http://www.clippingpathindia.com/) India

Deviant Art sites is the best resource you can find in google in order to put some cool designs on your site.

Creating a Logo (http://www.icreate-logos.com/)

The photos you can get from the customers. Customers want their own photograph in the site.If you want to make the site more attractive then you cane search for the related sites. You can get lots of photographs.

Go to google images and type web design. You can get a lot of photos regarding web design for a site. All are very nice photos.

Anyone knows about free psd photos website?

I got a good site for free photos from a professor, http://www.morguefile.com

Hi,

I would try ww.photobucket.com

Kind regards,

Maria
Social Media Strategist
www.mooveagency.com

You can get photos from photobucket

I always use Stockexchange.com (http://www.sxc.hu/), these pictures are not also royalty free (not copyrighted), but also downloadable in high resolution. Deviantart is also good but I think those pictures have various copyrights on them.

Thanks for the good post!)

I am looking for photos to add to new websites I am designing. I am against taking someone else photos and using them for my self. So where can I get some for free use or a small royalty fee?

I think you should purchase from the paid site, because when you purchase photos for your own site it will be your property and you can claim for copy right if any one try to use these photos without your permission.

I've gotten a lot of great free images from sxc.hu
http://www.dreamstime.com is a paid site, but they have a good free section.
http://www.morguefile.com has a large collection of free quality images.

If asking permission is not something you're afraid of, Flickr.com is probably the largest collection on the web. There are quite a few shutterbugs there that will let you use their work. They've got something akin to a PM system where you can contact most of them, and you can shoutbox the rest. Once you have the OK to use their image, just save the email or PM as verification.

Try Shutterstock. All-free-downloads.com is good for free graphics, not sure if it does photos too.

you just go to Onlineebdirectory (http://www.onlinewebdirectory.com/) and search by category. simple

If you can't afford to use something like Fotolia or iStockPhoto why not Gimp / Photoshop something up. I would not recommend using anything Copyrighted. You are just asking for Trouble.

I stole them from the net. *dont judge me*

For web designing, photos can be getting by Search Engine like Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

deviantart.com is the best to get more picture to use for graphic designs. They really give good quality pictures that will seriously fulfill your expectations.

web design sydney/ (http://smoothcorporate.com/)

I am guessing you just browsing Flicker website because Flicker is the most popular image hosting site .

well there are many websites who are engaged in the business of selling images and photos of your use..if you don't want to use other's photos or
images why don't you get it designed by a graphic designer. I think that will be the best option for you.

Dreamstime on a monthly rate can't be beat.

I think you can those photos you want for free to someone's else property. But in return, you will have to put their names or have their link when you post it to your website.

After gaining the Flip in Christmas, you are glad to find a traditional but amazing shooting tool which is easy-to-take and non-expensive spending, everything from it is as good ad HD camcorders and now you hope to edit the Flip recording on iMovie if you are Mac users.

The fact seems to break the compatibility logic. Clips form Flip SlideHD, Flip Mino HD , Flip Mino HD, Flip Ultra, Flip Ultra HD are in MP4 format, while shooting form Flip Mino is in MPEG-4 AVI format. iMovie limits its accepted video to MOV, MP4, H.264, M4V etc format. That is, iMovie can support most of the MP4 records from Flip camcorder in logic.

The problem occurs may due to the differences between Flip MP4 and iMovie readable MP4. The gap between Flip MP4 and iMovie make Flip shooting fans feel frustrated when make effort to edit Flip video with iMovie,

If they have a Mac Flip to iMovie Converter (http://www.doremisoft.net/Video-Converter-Mac/)installed on Mac, everything will be fine. Doremisoft In. Researched and develped Mac Flip to iMovie Converter for Flip camcorder users to fully enjoy editing and creating their family movie.

search google with the search words "royalty free photos". The top results are your answer.

A friend of mine is stuck on the same issue he wants to upload photos to add to a new websites. I am sure this forum will help him.

Very good post.

Try to take more relevant Photos of your designing of youe website and to take those photos you will get from google and yahoo as well :)

Just by searching google images.

try www.sxc.hu
Its a free stock exchange site where you get free hd pics for commercial use as well...:)

thank you for the great information

I was introduced to istockphoto and I like them because they let you choose how to buy you photos/art. For example if you go to getty or use Adobe's tool to network with a whole bunch of sites, then you see once you purchase them, you will pay between $50 and $250 (sometimes more or less) to use them.

you search on google hope you will find there...

I did not read the whole 11 Pages, but if it still was not written here. My favourite Site for that is sxc.hu.

google is the best site for any kind of search..you search there i hope you will find a huge stuff of photos for your website...and best of luck for your website..

I'm looking for photo "royelty fee" and "SXC.HU" add when uses website design, then edit add my web page ..

You might be looking for some stock photo sites. These are sites that let you use their photos either for free or for a fee. You can look for and easily find some through a bit of searching on the internet.
