I'm looking for a javascript that would set up a message board for my site.
I found a remotely hosted free messageboard but if they go out of business I'm stuck with a bunch of dead links.
I'm not much of a programmer so if anyone has some simple solutions for me I would much appreciate it.
My host has Pearl and ...... cgi?? I think those two things might be necessary for this kind of script.
Thanks.
Phil
Client-side javascript is not capable of handling messageboards. These are a typical task where server-side languages can be used, so maybe your question is more suited in that forum.
Just because you ask, if you can ensure that your host supports PHP (a server-side language) and MySQL (a database), you could try out the phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/) messageboard. A colleague of mine who has no programming experience managed quite easily to set it up on his site, so I guess it's not the most difficult thing to do.
I don't know of free Perl messageboards, but I'm pretty sure they exist somewhere out there in the wilderness of sourceforge.net. The people in the server-side forum could help you further along though.
hth
hes right the cgi/perl forum section would help more, BUT heres a good cgi link, just look under perl and go to message boards and forums.
