Need help with Apache

Hi,
I am a linux newbie. I have a red hat 9 installation.
How do I check if I have whether do I have Apache
installed. Also, where do I download Apache from.

Regards dip

I dont know how to check if you have it installed... Try C:\Apache and see if it exists.

You can download apache from http://www.apache.org, also this useful link http://aesthetic-theory.com/showtut.php?page=tutorials&t=server1 for how to install Apache, PHP and MySQL if you are not familiar with it.. Helped me a bunch.

Thanks super kobs for the link

Hope this helps you.

hey missing score ,you wont find C:\Apache on most *NIX boxes ;)

in a terminal type

which httpd
or
which apachectl

if you have apache it will tell you where .

if you dont have it & you are new to *NIX
google for `apache rpm mandrake` or similar , else download the source from apache.org , building apache on *NIX is mostly hassle free, the INSTALL file that comes with the source gives examples etc

Must have skipped the top line, the article is about windows aswell :p

If you did the default install for RH 9, you've got apache.

Additionally, it should start by default when you boot your computer.

If you want to check you can run this command (as root): (From the command like aka terminal)

$>checkconfig --list | grep httpd

this will show you which the default status for each runlevel (Run level 5 is the normal "graphic" runlevel.

To start / restart / stop apache just type (from root)

$>service httpd start

//or

$>service httpd restart

// or

$>service httpd stop

Hope this helps.
