Anyone have any experience installing Dos onto a machine with Windows already on it? I wanted to install Dos firts, but the particular circumstances made that impractical. So my question is, is anyone aware of things that i should know before i try an do this? Assume that i don't know anything, and inform me of very minute details.
Also, does anyone know of a good FAT32 driver for MS-Dos 6.22? I spent a while looking for one, and didn't come up with much.

Do you need version 6.22? Because Win95 has Dos 7 and Win98 has Dos 7.1.
You can boot up into just dos from Win9x... hit F8 when it's starting up and select 'Command Prompt Only'
Dos 7 and later isn't Dos. it's ******* slacker son of Dos that doesn't do crap. You can't even defrag with it.

yeah, i tried that already, and didn't come up with anything much. looks like i'll just have to keep sorting through it then.
still leaves me wondering if anyone has any experience with putting 6.22 on after having already installed windows. anyone?
You aren't gonna be able to have your Windows 9x and Dos really. I mean they can both be on there. But you either boot one or the other. If you boot up with Win9x... the DOS 6.22 programs won't work because it will probably say 'Incorrect DOS Version'.
Way back in the day with DOS and Windows 3... I had a problem or too with that.
Out of curiosity, why do you need to run DOS 6.22?
why have Dos when yo ucan have windope? isnt it funny to think that before, windows was a GUI for DOS?
Oracle, that's exactly what i'm looking for: to be able to boot to MS-Dos, and not just WinDos, but good old MS-Dos 6.22. The reason i want that, is security. When (not "if") something goes wrong with Windows, i want to be able to know that i have MS-Dos there, with all of the good old programs that i'm familiar with. I'm not worried about using the WinDos from within windows. the only problem that i can think of, is the fat32 problem. does anyone know of any other problems that i might encounter in trying to do this?
Hmm, you could always dual-boot a Linux distro with Lilo, and run Dosemu :D.

Because they aren't designed to work with FAT32 or drives that are the mulit-gigibyte.
Now even if you can get past all these problems, what you can do is install DOS to floppies. I remember there was a feature in the DOS setup to do that. Then you could use those to boot off of.

I use freedos with cwsdpmi extender. :)
I search again now and seems that freedos is stil alive, :)
