Serious Help needed! This is even a bit personal!

Some of the real life problems have led me use some of you people's skills and knowledge. A person whom I had good relationship with, commited fraud and ran away from my home country! The person has set some of my family members in trouble. That person is already "Wanted" in this country for fraud. We (our family) want to find him since its our only way to get ourselves out of trouble!

What we know?
01. His email address
02. He checks emails regularly
03. He uses "Hotmail"!

How can you all help?
I've thought a lot for a while and then had a plan. The email address cannot be traced since he does not send email to anyone. With the help of you guys, we can let him visit a web site which will eventually take his IP address. If there are other ways to get his ip address or to TRICK him, you all are welcome. I must know IP in order to get information about his country and city etc...with the software "Where Is IP" I will get the information. This is more then enough for us to physically get him!

This no joke! there are some matters we have to take in our hands and this is the time I wanna show my family that technology is not WEAK!

I'm sory to hear about your problems, but your plan doesn't feel right; tricking people into something.
+ the stronger the technology, the stronger your moral principles should be. Just my opinion, of course.
What's more, i don't see how to actually do it. He/she would have to do more then reading a mail. He should at least fire a request to the server that hold the IP-registering page. But i can't imagen it would be a "register my IP" link or so, so it would be willingly tricking people into something they don't want. He/she will probably be very careful about opening links or hitting buttons (and automatically fiering a request would be a step to far). But even then. You'd need to register the referal (remote host) and i don't know if the server he'll pass through will send this in there header. If you don't get the refering page/server, it wount be possible. Other people ending up on this page would also be logged and how would you know which log entry is the one from the person you're looking for? And even if you get the IP, it could be fixed, or it could be a dynamic IP.

All providers need to log the activity and store these logs for a given period, so official authoritys have the possebility to track him down.

why should we believe you? you pop up here and ask if we can get an ip for you :| how do we know your not trying to trojan somone, trying to scare them.

anway, if you aren't the big fat liar you look like, his ip probably changes every time he connects, and that would be if he has a personal computer, because if hes hiding he would probably use a public computer or at least a proxy to connect to the internet.

anyway how do you know he checks his email if he skipped the border and doesn't send any?

IMO your a liar and breaking the TOS, go get banned.

It does not matter if its dymanic or static since, I will be able to get the information about the ISP in anyways. Its the ISP's location that I'm concerned with. The ISP's location is the physical place where we have to physically begin our search with the help of cops or who ever.

More about them...
That person I'm talking about ran away with his family members including wife and 4 children. One of the child has serious habit of Internet and is reading emails in his "INBOX" since our test emails are not back to us with error of "Delivery Failed" and so on status notifications. The main person who commited fraud does not have any knowledge of information technology. These people are not that smart as long as I personnaly got chance to know them for plenty of years. They do basic tasks such as check emails, surf NET, Chat on Messengers, and do whatever they can.

About doing more... If she clicks on ONE link (with trap page) I can get the rest information as I said in earlier page. My main concern is to know their city and country not the EXACT place. This is the matter for physical search with law. but before I say anything to Cops, I must have strong powers with me.

When people really needs help this is what happens.... not many people beleive them. Some matters are serious. If I got successful I'll firstly notify this forum with the actual photos with Cops and all.

This world is based on trust when it comes to business. I at this point can't convince you people of what these people have done in our life. Imagine paying a bank a sum of 140000$ for nothing. Anyways, This artice from our local news company may give you some evidence of my truth!

If your a liar or not is beside the point.

It would be unethical and probably in sore respect illegal to deliberitely set up a scheme to get his IP. I for one wouldn't do it for myself and certainly not for someone else i don't even know.
Anyway, this is a forum about codingproblems, not some sort of internet police service.
We are here to help other coders.

are the police/cops involved?

you see you could hand over the details, and he could be tracked, as hotmail users servers and hotmail staff must be able to see who logged in etc. and they will have web logs. so i would pass on the details to the police, and let them deal with it.

or you could use another slightly way off getting his ip address, but then in court you look a bit stupid when they ask how you tracked the person down.

so my advice is you pass on the details to the cops and they will contact microsoft and find him or they will perform the trick.

If you do get his IP by tricking him and the cops don't know/advise it I wouldn't you see, you could find a method of catching IP's and then get the cops to send the email = you not in the equation for looking stupid in court.

Note:Edited by me for an extra few comments.

you see some people will be reluctant as you should look before you leep. and when it involves law it does concern people about what they do.

My people have ethics about that they should use there skills for the work of good and not for the work of evil in disguise.

My advice is you find out what the cops think/recommend about you tricking him to get his ip.

After all you could end up crupting a case.

Also to assume is to be wrong, never assume nothing.

assumptions are the mother of all f&%$ ups... so be careful.

That doesn't mean he is reading them. It just means that the account exists.

unless he has it on subscription it needs to be signed into every 30 days to keep it existing. Who is to say he isn't paying a mate to keep the account active?

Best chance to find this person... hire a good private investigator.

Better yet, hire two (but don't let either one know about the other). They'll find you all the information you need. Each investigator may find different information, but it will all be useful to the police.

Personally, I agree with Whackaxe - you're trying to scam someone. But if not, then there's your best information source(s).

My basic idea was to track these people down through my knowledge and present the proof and get the guy arrested. But the way I see it now, you people probably think I'm tring to screw someone up. I can't contact cops first becuse they are after us firstly for the "problem" created by the guy who ran away... I can't go to courts/cops... they can't help me since this is a matter of abroad country and as long as I know, Interpol will not mess with it until it since its not a serious crime such as "Murder", "Terrorsim" etc.... my guess is that cops are limited to this country only. I'm not yet sure that this country's government has ties with the country where that guy is. So something tells me that I and my family have to take this guy physically first and then convince the local government. He is indeed wanted by major "Banks", "Private Companies" and obviously "Cops". Private investigator will indeed do all things that we are tring do right now.

If I can be successful in this matter on my own, I don't NEED others (Investigators, Detectives and so on).

My next step, I will hire a website, upload a page full of traps and then send them an email which will shock them and eventually let them visit the website and we will sue them!

I guess I have to get through official channels but I will try once more....

if he has ripped of banks etc. they will be after him, you can go to the police and explain it all and when they do arrest him, it will help you get out the nick.

do it offically and your butt isn't on the line.

My butt is on in here... He has certainly created a problem which indrectly puts us in trouble.... The guy managed to steal something and used it as his something to commit fraud. The only way I feel is what I'm doing.... Cops just can't help. (Thats what they say... "Not our department" to others)

But I feel like I'm talking to someone a bit low in Law information.... but hey, my idea of catching a person does not involve law....

Somtimes some things have to be done illegally if you say so... I would not beleive that you don't use even use one illegal softwares or MP3z....

I think this thread has run its course- some things just aren't appropriate for discussion online without knowing the entire story first, which is not possible here. This thread will be closed soon.

I regards to legal matters -- in the United States (regardless of the current Patriot Act) such schemes are not acceptable in court. Similiar to recording a conversation without the act of physically notifying the recepient that the act is in progress (or, being a law enforcer with a court order [no-knock or otherwise]).

Regardless, playing bounty hunter and tracking down a vigilante will most likely get him off with less time served or a menial punishment -- counter suite and/or hospital time and/or etc.

I don't necessarily trust the police in any matter -- but you are not Batman. Such actions can cause damage to you, those that you love, and diminish the effects of the possible punishment of your aggressor. The justic system is corrupt, but countering the rights of an individual is a morally grotesque subject here.

I have little knowledge of foreign law, as this is the first time my 4 year degree in forensic psych. has posed useful in my long stint as a designer.

All rite.... "WA" you may proceed... since this is not helping me in any way. Besides why bother you people's head. I'll sort this matter myself.... but hey... thanks for your advices... atleast I know that I will be a bit stronger with cops then without.

Its just that I hoped a way to get their location through their email usage. Quite not possible until such traps are prepared with the help of law. Do you people think M$ can help law? They are so rude when we try to contact them for anything...

In 1972 a crack comando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles Underground.
Today , still wanted by the government they survive as solders of fortune. So, if you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them, maybe you can hire..... THE A -TEAM

http://silverpaw3d.com/smilies/mrt2.gifTo answer your question; the authorities aren't well versed with technology and the internet. The police are unlikely to ever start laying 'traps' for people as they don't, nor will ever, have the resources or expertise. This kind of thing will be left to the FBI etc.

There are technological barriers here too; though you could trace the ISP from a server log, how do you - or more importantly the authorities - know it's the individual concerned logging on. They're very unlikely to go out on a wim chasing someone who could very well not be the man.

Further more, and please don't take undue offence at this; myself, and the other knowledgeables of this forum, aren't going to devise plans for tracking individuals, certainly not on a public bulletin board. Ultimately we don't know you, the situation, and certain things aren't to be foisted unto the public domain. Potentially we could be writing a cyber-stalking handbook of sorts and I'd not want any part in that. This maybe why you've not recieved the answer you require.

I'd advise you take professional help, and I wish you well in sorting the situation out. If the A-Team can't help, maybe try the Ghostbusters, Rambo, or failing that a solicitor.
