Sure. I love macs... I really want an iBook. But I absolutely hate their marketing. They really try hard to appeal to the mindless users (and it shows by their 2% market share).
And I'd never pay $3000 for one of their top of the line towers when I can build the sweetest PC ever for maybe $1500.
Their laptops though... that's the only thing I think they have going for them. That and their OS/bundled iLife software. I've turned into a huge fan of OSX when I helped setup my school's new eMac lab a few weeks ago.

i have to agree though. The Mac laptops are pretty sweet. But the desktop computers have always costed to much in my opinion. Well for what they pack anyway..
Slashdot had a couple nice posts about the benchmark software apple used and how they bent the results a little.
Just for fun I went and maxed out one of the new dual 2ghz G5's. It came out to around 10k...yikes! But 8 gigs of ram would be nice....
I must agree with you jkd, I love the notebooks...though I have never used one, my friend has one and it is great. I have thought about getting one latley due to my new interest in computer-based music. I dunno, I love my pc's a lot....
My brother's a web designer and I'd swear half the reason he gets work is the fact he's got a Powerbook Titanium; where others take a list of links to their portfolio to interviews, he takes a stupidly expensive laptop carrying his. I might get a laptop sometime for similar purposes.
I wonder how many fps the G5 does in games, relative to a P4 C or nicely clocked Athlon, suppose that benchmark wouldn't suit Apples marketing strategy, though they'd likely claim to be doing more per frame...
Well, I'd say benchmarking the G5 isn't something we can do really well right now. First of all, both benchmarking tools and games tend to be more optimised to the x86 family than to the PPC family. Secondly, very few benchmarks are using the G5 to it's full potential, especially the additional 32 bit capability. The processor is given to run slower than it could be, because most software that you might run on it is still 32-bit. Thirdly, the best processors to compare with are the hammers and the itaniums, not the earlier PPC or x86-32 processors (which at least in the latter case operate at higher frequencies).
(I wish someone had put one of the 2GHz G5's in my iBook instead of my current 900MHz G3...)
Well, G5, a sudden jump in CPU speed that means they are very close to the x86, OSX, iTunes, Safari, iPod, AirPort and excellent unix/windows/mac cross-networking capability; I'd say Apple will be gaining users in the future, especially when it comes their portables. Only real downside is their cost...
Have just got an eMac, 1Ghz, 60Gb, 640Mb, 17" etc … machine with OSX for the house.
After spending 12 years working and loving the older OS, I'm beginning to like OSX.
This is the first Mac I've ever bought for myself and it's great…
