Need advice regarding PHP
hello,
well I've just started bit of using PHP & SQL ... actually am tired of using ASP and Microsoft products... this is the main reason ... I've a tutorial from tizag.com and found really interesting .....
What i want to know is ... does it worth while ... although Web Development is not my main source of income ... am just doing it in my spare time....
is there any one who can suggest me ... if am going on the right path.

I am not going to suggest that the future is PHP and MySQL...because on one can predict the future..
However, if you look at hosting companies and the products they provide...you find that PHP and MySQL are widely supported...even more than ASP, JSP, .NET, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails and other technologies.
Also, MySQL is gaining more and more popularity and support. Even Google has announced their adoption of MySQL, Linux, PHP, among other open source technologies.

Apache installations are starting to fall though, they don't have the market cornered by far. A lot of companies take the - if it's free it can't be good - approach to technology.
Knowing both can never hurt you, in fact the more languages and technologies you are comfortable with the better a programmer you can be. They are all tools and it is just a matter of picking the right one for the job.
If you're doing a bit of freelance on the side then PHP is definately the way to go. If you want a big corporate web dev job then go asp.net. ASP.net coders get paid more (generally speaking) because they're less common but a lot of big companies go with microsoft products - because they're really expensive. :boggle
PHP coders are 10 a penny because its free and widely supported - getting started as a php/mysql developer is easy because your costs are practically none-existant. You can still make a good wage as a php coder, especially if you're really good and professional because the flip side of being free and widely supported is that there are a lot of kiddies, part-timers and down right amateurs, calling themselves php coders. Pretty much all my clients have been burned in the past by cheap coders so they're happy to pay my high rates to get a good quality job.
