I hate my Job - Can somebody give me career advice

This job sucks.

I've been building a web-based paperwork system for my employer for the past four months. I really don't like doing this job for them - they don't appreciate the work that I am doing for them simply because they have no idea what I'm doing or what my work is worth.

Right now I am building a complicated JavaScript form generator that generates complicated and dynamic forms from a database. I was wondering if anybody out there might take a look at the work that I am doing and tell me if I am actually qualified to get a job somewhere else as a programmer and where I might start looking for work.

I cannot really post this form generator on the web because it has not received any copywrite protection yet but I would be willing to show it to you over AIM if you wanted to offer your opinion on the quality of my work.

My AIM S N is : "a Caged Demon" no spaces.

Welcome to the real world!!

I've had several jobs over the past 18+ years since I left school. It's not going to get much better. The grass is not always greener on the other side. In this economy, if you can pay your bills and afford to eat on what you make, I say shut-up and keep your head down.

My two cents; I could be a bit jaded, though. ;)

Just want to say I'm in exactly the same situation, dude i hate my job :(

believe me your job sounds pretty damn good right now

I prefer freelancing is the best option. As a freelancer you can work of your own and independently.

ruggeddesign, there's a lot of freelance work in the internet
Anyway, if you are a good Javascript programmer, you may easily find another suitable job for you, as the experts in such field have always been of a great value

so Good Luck to you and do not be upset

Some very good advice was given to you. Us old-timers are prone to "security", so advice to keep your head down is a very valid one - I mean what is worse, having no decent income and be unhappy about it or having a decent income and be unhappy about it?

On the other hand life is way too short to be doing what you hate! Doing what you hate drains your energy and spirit. So, my advice endure the job untill you get another one, that you are at least 50% sure has better bosses that appreciate their people.

The life of a freelancer is no cake walk, let me tell you. Income is highly irregular, some months you might be earning a lot the next nothing at all AND your income will depend on not only how good your coding skills are, but MORE on how good your client acquisition skills are.
