Cap Locks

I wanted to know if there was a away of making it so that Windows 98 started w/ cap locks always on. Is there also away of locking this on? Thanks.

-Stephen

I think this may be a PC system configuration vs. Windows ' settings.

Here is an article that addresses NUM LOCK and touches on CAPS LOCK that may be of interest to your request.

Here's a quote from the site JoeP posted:

Solution #2 (Windows 95/98 only):

Include the command NUMLOCK = OFF or NUMLOCK = ON (depending on your preference) somewhere in your CONFIG.SYS file (on its own line).
CONFIG.SYS can be edited with any plain text editor, such as Notepad. If CONFIG.SYS isn't there, just create a new file.

Did you find CONFIG.SYS? If so, open it with Notepad (with 'word wrap' off) and add:

NUMLOCK = ON as the directions state, on its own line.

Good luck ;) .

Yes.... I know that but I said I need caplock on. I know how to turn numlock ON and off throguh the bios setup. But thanx for trying. ;)

Oops...sorry about the misunderstanding. I suppose you could try adding CAPSLOCK = ON to the config.sys file. It's probably a long shot, but if it doesn't work, you could always re-open the file and remove the line you added. It's when you start messing with the registry that you have to be extra careful. A wrong move there could spell trouble ;) !

I TRIED BOTH
CAPSLOCK = ON
CAPLOCK = ON
BOTH DIDN'T WORK AND TOLD ME AN INVALID COMMAND ON STARTUP. ANY OTHER IDEAS?

There are several free utility files to download. Scroll down to the section:

Utils

Description There are a total of five small command programs which work only under DOS. The first program is REBOOT.COM which will reboot your computer while under DOS. If you have SmartDrive loaded, SmartDrive will cache before your computer reboots. The remaining command programs work in pairs. The first pair turn the caps lock on and off (CAPS_ON.COM and CAPS_OFF.COM). The last two programs turn the num lock on and off (NUM_ON.COM and NUM_OFF.COM).

Download Download the 16-bit version of Utils (1K)

The Downloaded zip file includes the Caps_on.com. I extracted the file in my C:\ drive and tried this in an the C:\autoexec.bat just by adding the following line:

CAPS_ON.com

Rebooted and it worked. I tested on Compac Laptop running Win 98.

P.S. There are several free useful utilities on that web page reference.

thanx
