Name and password protection for a webpage

I'm have never password protected a web page before. I have experience with dream weaver, but when it goes past html and css. I'm a total newbie.

What would be the easiest way to do this with Westhost based hosting?

Any help would be great!

All the best,

There is an application available within your Site Manager called WebPassword 1.5 that can do this for you. If you log in and go to the Site Applications section and then install it. After it is installed click on the administration link and it will take you to a web page where you can set up the password protection. The Webpassword application itself usually takes the same username and password as your Site Manager. Once you are logged in you just give it the URL that you want password protected and the username and password and click "create" and it should do the rest.

Actually, I guess I should have clarified what type of password protection you were looking for before I threw out a solution.

The method I described above is the kind where when you try to view a webpage there is a pop-up box that prompts the user for a username and password, and if they don't have the correct credentials they receive an error screen and the webpage is not displayed. Like what happens if you go to your File Manager utility ( http://yourdomain.com/fm/ ) <-- make sure you enter YOUR domain in that URL ;)

Another method would be to have the username and password prompt as html form elements of the page, much like when logging in to these forums. To do it this way you would NOT use WebPassword. So if this is what you had in mind just disregard what I posted previously :|

Here is a good intro to using PHP. Easy to follow and pretty easy to implement yourself.

I think I'll go for the easier preinstalled option for now. This look like it will cover my needs.

All the best!
