Suggest me a domain name!

I'm looking for a .co.uk / .net / .com domain, but unfortunately some corporate basts called cr*backward e*ative have got:

-cr3ative.com
-cr3ative.org
-cr3ative.net
-cr3ative.co.uk
-cr3ative.info
-cr3ative.tv

Grr, the utter domain hogging fools.

Anyway, can anyone suggest me a domain name?

What's the nature/ topic of your site? Personally I really would avoid "cr3ative" in the domain if possible. It's very hard to remember correctly. Let us know the kind of site it will be, and I can give you some suggestions.

Righty then.

It'll be a site to replace my current afpsupport.r8.org, so it will still host PCT Online. The name could involve this.

Cheers

Ok, here are some suggestions I can think of. Last check, they're all available:

-afpflash.com
-afpflashplayer.com
-pctresearch.com
-afpmovieplayer.com

Ease of remembering and logical in meaning are both important when choosing a domain name IMO, the former for humans, the later, also for search engines (ie: flash player is a good keyword).

Cheers. I like the sound of pctresearch.com - I might park myself there.

I've just got to wait to get my pay cheque cleared for this month now .. .:p

Thanks boss

:/ .com's are a bit pricy nowadays...

1and1.co.uk - £1.99/month for .co.uk but £9/month for .com
I think I'll economise here.

I hope they support web forwarding, they seem cheap. I want to point the .co.uk domain towards my existing webspace... that is what web forwarding is, isn't it?

cr3ative (anxious that he doesn't get stung for hosting)

edit: does this sound like what I want?

Web Hosting 5.0 technology also provides you with full DNS and domain contact management as well as providing you with redirection address options, set up directories and a domain status overview.

edit 2: yes it is. marvellous.

For £9/month I'd want a semi-dedicated server, with the domain thrown in for free :)

If you want a .com try GoDaddy (http://www.godaddy.com), they charge $8.95/yr for .coms and .nets, so, if you don't mind the conversion, this comes to just under £5/yr. They also do private registrations aswell for an extra £5/yr, if you're interested. The only downside is that they only give you email fowarders and no POP accounts in the package.

Also, forwarding won't let you use addresses such as www.pctresearch.com/your_page.html unless your host has nameservers.

Hi everyone, and thanks very much for your feedback.

@ausant: I want to be able to keep the domain name for use with all projects - AFP will be completed soon and it'll just be a feature in my download section.

cr3ative

/me thinks.

Also, forwarding won't let you use addresses such as www.pctresearch.com/your_page.html unless your host has nameservers.
Aha. I can point it towards www.afpsuppport.r8.org then?
That's a lot of forwarding to get there, but hopefully it'll work..

cr3ative

ohhhhhh now i get it so afp will be 1 part in your huge site why didn't i think of that?? :D

tell us when you've got the domain name sussed out:)

Aha. I can point it towards www.afpsuppport.r8.org then?
That's a lot of forwarding to get there, but hopefully it'll work..If you get a domain you may as well leave out the r8.org short URL, and point it straight at your host, so it will do exactly what your r8.org is currently doing - loading an initial frameset in which your site is viewed.

Just a note that you could actually use www.afpsupport.r8.org/index.htm with r8.org because they support pathforwarding. If you won't be using nameservers and want this in your real domain, you could look for a company that offers this, but I would guess most don't because it would increase their traffic aswell - GoDaddy doesn't support this, not sure if 1and1 does.

afpsupport.r8.org points towards gerryhyh.f2s.com/paul/content... would GoDaddy be able to to do this (i.e with a folder as well as the domain)?

I was under the impression it wouldn't.. :(

cr3ative

Er, sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, I could've worded that better.
GoDaddy will let you forward to gerryhyh.f2s.com/paul/content via, eg: www.pctresearch.com. However if you went to www.pctresearch.com/errors.htm it wouldn't load gerryhyh.f2s.com/paul/content/errors.htm because they don't support pathforwarding like r8.org.
I guess it would only really be useful if you were to change your links to pctresearch.com/etc.htm and make them load in the whole window, which would make your site work almost like if it were using nameservers. It's not really a problem if you don't mind the address bar showing www.pctresearch.com on all your pages (like your r8.org does currently).

Thanks for clearing that one up.

I'll have a think about it while I wait for Service Pack 2 to download...
