Forum going VERY slow

Alright starting last week my website has been going VERY slow off and on, some times it takes 2-3 min to post something..

I called godaddy and they are blaming it on my database.

I have almost everything that takes server load disabled..

What can be going on?

I didn't have to read anything past "I called godaddy..."

Thats your problem right there, Find a new host its in your best interest.

What is good and cheap?

Please read the announcement about this forum. It is not for hosting discussions. Thanks.

Tell me a little about the server that your forum is running on... is it a dedicated server ... vps... or shared hosting? If you have root access to the server I might be able to help you optimize your database. If not it's in the hands of your host.

Yes I have shared hosting :(

You may want to consider going semi dedicated or dedicated. Large forums don't go well with shared hosting. Maybe your host can either move your account to a server with less load, or optimize the database. I'm sorry you're having trouble. I wish I could help you more.

How can I optimize the database?

I made sure anything with performance is turned off in the VB settings.

I hit that optimize button in the Maintenance tab.

The hosting company is blaming my database, is this possible ?

I mean 1 min it is fine and the next it can take 2 min just to get to the page

If you are not satisfied with them and are having this problem then it in your best interest to switch to another host. Hosting is one of the most important thing in running a website/forum/blog and if you skimp on that, you won’t become successful.

Server Load Averages 1.09 1.31 1.39 | 15 Users Online (8 members and 7 guests)

that isn't bad, is it?

with only 15 users online, yes that is bad. I suggest you migrate to another host with a vps or dedicated if you can. There is not really much more you can do to tweak the server if you have shared hosting.

Actually not really that bad, are you sure the issue not just with your connection i.e. have you gotten someone else to check it from a different isp?

no forum script is small enough for godaddy. I wouldn't recommend a dedi for a small board. He can use a shared box for that small (depending on the specs of the shared server and the server population). sometimes 20 Users online simultaneously and server loads rarely exceed 1.00. Good thing my host has the goody paid server at the back of the store because my host also offers free hosting so there's not much people renting the paid server and I think you just gotta find a host that doesn't oversell and someone you can talk to openly.

GoDaddy isn't the way to go especially if you're going to have to run DB Dependent scripts.

It might not necessarily be your problem. Seeing that you're on shared hosting, it could be another site hosted on the server lagging you down. Try checking with your host too.
