Restart Server

Hi, I seem to be running into a slow server every 2 weeks. This is usually fixed by re-booting the VPS, which is running CentOS 4.

I'm sure linux systems don't need rebooting that often?

Depends on processor, RAM, and popularity/resource hunger applications. It also has to do with the company, if they are overselling or running the VPSs on a low end machine.

Best to talk ot support or monitor what is happening that makes it run slow. Could just be automatic backups or that something on your forum or on the VPS in general hogs a lot of resources that slow everything else down.

So, best to talk to your host's support team. If they can't help or identify the problem, best look for another host.

Thanks :)

i've had my vps up for 96 days without restarting it so far, so yeeea could be loads of different reasons.

Next time it slows down, check how much free RAM you have, and how much swap space is being used. Also, check the CPU usage level.

I've found it! The server keeps getting DoSses by a particular IP at the same time every morning :s
