Help Editing Animated Gif Found on Internet

I found an animated gif of a pilot sitting in an airplane. I want to replace the pilot's head with my cat's :).

The propeller's of the airplane spin and that's what I like about this gif.

I used some little freebee gif editor to seperate the photos that make up the anim gif. But the photos have black swirls and are all distorted even though the animated gif works perfectly when I play it inside the program. I tried a second program with the same results!

QUESTIONS:
1) Any idea why the photos look distorted in the programs but work as an anim gif?
2) What's a good program to seperate all the photos so they look good so I can edit them in Photo Draw (or other) to put my cat's head on the pilot's head in each photo, resulting in an anim gif?

Thanks!!

I like animation shop.

The GIMP (gimp.org) is a nice photo-editing program. Don't have a clue about the distortion, though.

Thanks for both replies. I immediately downloaded a trial copy of Animation Shop and IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM! THANKS!

All the photos came out perfect AND it allowed me to copy each frame and insert it into PhotoDraw! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!

I didn't try "The Gimp" yet, I'm so happy with the other, but THANKS for the suggestion. I will look at that one too.

BEST WISHES!!

GIMP (General Image Manipulation Project, or something like that) is a open source project of a free (open source is usually free, but still great quality (firefox is open source)) image editing/creation program like Adobe Photoshop, except photoshop is INSANELY better, though GIMP does have a general color selection tool, can open tons of filetypes, offers layers (putting images on top of each other without having to mess up other layers), a huge pallet of brushes and textures preloaded, and features extensions/addons (one of the things that makes the firefox browser so great)
