I just wanted to know if I can open PowerPoint presentations on my website. Not to download them but to view them. Something like, make it like a page. For example, you press button or click on the link and presentation starts.
Similar to opening movies on the page using javascript code.

Any info on this one ?

I just wanted to know if I can open PowerPoint presentations on my website.Errm, that has nothing to do with accessibility. This post would have been better off in the Other (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12) forum.

Not to download them but to view them. Something like, make it like a page. You cannot control this behaviour. It is entirely down to the configuration of a machine or user agent. A user might have configured their user agent to always download files of a certain type. Moreover, if the viewer for a file type isn't available, there is little choice but to download the content.

All you can do is ensure that the right MIME type is sent by the server so the recipient knows exactly what's being received. If the server is sending an unknown MIME type, or a generic one like application/octet-stream, no attempt should be made to display that file.

There are add ons to PowerPoint for that. I have no experience with them but, a quick Google search turned up several. One is at:

So, the answer is no, you can't display PowerPoint on the web but, you can convert it to HTML to get the same effect.

This is not an endorsement of any product.

I have tried one of the free versions of programs to change powerpoint to flash and so forth but it never seemed to come out like I wanted it to come out and unless you want to pay someone to do it you can't. Plus there are people that do not have powerpoint and would not be able to view something like that. It would be much easier doing it in flash just because there is a simple free plugin you can install so that you can view it.

That makes sense, and if you are looking for free. There seems to be a bit of free flash stuff out there, any recomendations? However, if you really like designing in powerpoint, it looks like some of these less expensive plug ins let you write in powerpoint and output to html, anybody have experience with those?

I actually have a program to make flash website and movies but unfortunatly I am not exactly that great at that so I can't help you there. I am not really how much it costs but google macromedia flash and I am sure you will get a price. I recieved mine as a present.

The best programm is presentation to video converter.

mozplugger with OpenOffice displays documents within the browser window. I don't know if mozplugger is available for Windows, but it would limit the browsers your site could be viewed in anyway.

I think about around 200 or 300 USD - easilly...

Convert AVI, WMV, MOV, MPEG, ASF to Macromedia Flash SWF, FLA files. Converts without losing quality. Easy and simple without convertion tool and software installation.

...

Convert Macromedia Flash (*.SWF and *.FLV) to video movie AVI, WMV. MPEG, MP4, ASF file. Easy and simple without any convertion, you do not need software installation and codec manipulations. We are pleased to involve you in our interactive convertion process using the power of your finger!Do I really need to point out the utter futility of that? The former is just pointless, and the latter completely defeats the point of using Flash in the first place. All the advantages of Flash (small file size, flexibility, interactivity) are negated, and anyone with a video plugin for their browser will probably have Flash too.

Not again...
At least this time it's vaguely related to the thread.

It very easy, you can use a link to that file, but make sure that this file is in your webroot, and you have install the powerpoint application also.
Hope this can help you!

and you have install the powerpoint application also.Unfortunately, everyone else has to have a .ppt-capable application installed and configured too :) That's the tricky part.

Backing up to the beginning
you can convert it to HTML to get the same effect. So instead of converting it to flash convert it to html.http://www.rdpslides.com/ppt2html/
