how to send SMS to a mobile from a web server

hi,

I want to send an SMS(to mobile pager etc) based on a database trigger or on completion of an ASP page. the site runs on NT.

how to do this. How do i send the mobile no or pager no. what is the language, protocol, syntax and platform.

if anyone knows please inform. i am unable to
understand how to write the code so a sample code will be very welcome. all material like logica.com, kannel.com etc have not helped.

thanks a lot

me to.

I'm gonna venture on a limb here, because I am just poking my head in to see whats going on with WAP technology, and I don't know what SMS is, but most text pager providers allow for e-mail pages. If your able to use email for pages, then send the message email, otherwise, again, venturing on that limb, but your going to want a modem/device to dial out and make the call to the pager.

You can do this in any language you feel like, NT runs everything I can think of.

Further elaborate, and I'll be more than happy to push you further, if possible.

Later,
Mike

Hi,
I have done this. You want to use some software from someone called MessageMaster. You create a message in your file system and then it dials up a phone number (yes you need dial up access) and sends the SMS. I have done it and it works beatifully.

Why use MessageMaster, which costs about 5000 USD, when you can make an ActiveX object to do this for you? All you have to do is to open serial port, use AT+GSM commands and, voila, you have sent your first SMS. Of course, you need a GSM modem or a phone which knows AT commands (most fo them do).

If you are too lazy to write all this yourself, have a look at SMS Centre from http://www.desoft.co.uk/ It's pretty cheap ($40) to buy, and you can download a trial version for free.

It does all this for you. If you want to write your own application, look at their SMS Messanger product. I am playing around with it myself.

Or use a service like sms-wap.com.

No setup fee, only cost is per sms (like when you send by phone)

Hey did you ever get anywhere with the above advice - some useful - but the original question revolved around a database and code trigger which is what i have to do with mysql and php.

If you have any more ideas please mail me.

take a look at
http://www.mobiles.unipro.ru/smlib.html

I use that Java library for sending SMS-es using Mobile phone connected to my PC.

Also, you can check http://www.aspsms.com/ they have discounts on large quantities, and they're half the price than an SMS message in Switzerland! :-)

Oh come on! This thread is like 2.5 years old!!

And your point is?

It is useful to develop further on information that is even more relevant now than it was 2 odd years ago.

The revenue from SMS messages is likely to double this year in the UK alone - with Ringtone sales overtaking CD sales in terms of royalties paid to artists - therefore everyone should jump on the bandwagon with this.

I think this was one my first post on Devshed and since I have built ToneTribe (http://www.tonetribe.com/) I use WAPMX as the gateway to send the SMS - and they have a simple http 1.1 API to send texts and 32 bit messages.

WapMX (http://www.wapmx.com/)

Take it easy E:)

Congratulations to Irinaforme for winning the most off topic post I've seen award.....

Have a look at http://www.developershome.com/sms/howToSendSMSFromPC.asp and http://www.developershome.com/sms/howToReceiveSMSUsingPC.asp if you want to know about different ways for sending and receiving SMS messages.

if my memory serves me right that site is the one that sends the recipient a free message inviting them to text a premium number at a charge of £5 to read the message you sent them for nothing.
