[flash8] Preloaders w/ numbers

I know how to create a progress bar, but I am having problems creating a preloader that uses numbers, and the numbers I am using are cut off at an angle --- for example it is cut almost in half.

How do I go about creating a pre-loader that goes from 1-100 with my sylized numbers?

Make sure you have your numbers set up for AS linkage. As well as making sure the appropriate location on the stage for the numbers is sized enough to show all of them.

Other than that I can't think of anything. DO you have a live version I could look at to see the problem first hand?

Blizzard thanks, to be clear I want the numbers to appear somewhat sliced, a good version of this is here:

in the LOADING ENVIRONMENT, you can see exactly what I want, how do I go about this, I have truly lost all my flash skills, so I am re-teaching myself

OHHHH... lol okay I see what you mean... Wow, I was way off..

This is quite simple, but bear with me as you are using verion 8 and I am on version 7... somethings might be a tad different, you will need to play around with it to see what happens. (hindsight.. not sure these methods have changed all that much...anyway)

The easiest method would most likely be to make a mask layer with your numbers. you can manipulate the mask to any size/shape you want. it will make the background show through, thus "hiding" the area the mask is over.

Another option is to do like the link you provided above does, and make 2 layers, on the lower layer put your numbers, on the higherlayer put another MC, make sure it has a solid background. With the higher layer above the lower, it will "shield" or block the numbers.

And yet, a third option is to make a dynamic text box for your numbers to appear in, and then set your font size to 2x the height of the text box.

on and on... any one of these will work.

Good Luck!

BLIZZARD!!! you are the man, seriously. You have been tremendous help - THANKS A MILLION!

Welcome! Glad it worked out for you!

Blizzard ---

Maybe you are familiar with this... A friend of mine figured out or knows a way to convert existing sites that you would view on a browser into FLAS. I have a flash decompiler where I can take swf and retro them to their source fla files, but this guy just goes online and does it. For example he went to wolfmother.com and got their FLA --- and all he told me was, "if its on screen I can get it" what the heck!!!??? How is that possible, any ideas?

Yes, if it is there you can get it. All you have to know is how the swf was embedded. Once you crack that, look in the source code and figure out what the swf(s) are called, and where they are stored. Then browse to them and save to your hard drive.

However, your friend, is not getting source fla's from his browser, unless he is using a decomplier that does the decompling before downloading (I have never heard of this though). The FLAs aren't stored on the server (unless people want them to be) There is no need, as a browser wont open them, and a server wont read them. The only need for having an FLA on the server is for downloading purposes, such as a tutorial or helping another forum member.

Interesting to hear what your friend has to say about his methods.
