how do i edit templates

Hello Everyone,

Newbie to the forum and to flash and already I have a question:D
I recently downloaded a flash template and I have figued out hwo to edit it through flash 8 but one thing I can't figure out is how to remove pages from that template.

here is what I have so far http://www.missmaltaofcanada.com/index1.html

If you take a look you will se that I have several pages that do not have pictures other than listings like "1a". I am almost completed filling in all the necessary informatin but I would like to remove some pages, pictures.

Is there an easy way to just remove them from the site? Please if any guru's can give me a step by step or just forward me to a link where I can find the instructions.

I have been seraching for a week so far no site can give me the information I need.

Your humblely Lilith

You will need to share the code from the .fla so I can tell you what to remove without damaging any other content.

If you are that new to Flash it might be better to just zip up the fla and post a link to it here for download and we can work on it at home, etc.

However, your pictures/pages are going to be a mix of array codes that look something like:

newArray= (pic1a, pic1b, pic2a...blah blah blah);
//do stuff with the array here blah blah

and also Movie Clips (MC) These pictures should have instance names that match those in the array.

If you are uncomfortable sharing your .fla, that is fine, but you will need to post some code.

Open your .fla and look at the very first frame, should be in a "scripts" layer, and copy and paste the code from that frame.

We can go from there :)

Hi Lilith,
I am trying to edit a flash template too. Can you help me get to where you are at now? thewritersagency@hotmail.com
Thank you in advance.

Hi Suzanne,

there are few things you need to have/know if you want to edit a flash template.

1. Have a Flash program to open the source file of the template something.fla,( flash mx, flash 8 etc)

2. Have a basic understanding of how Flash works.

3. If you have no knowledge of Flash you could upload your source code here. The experts here could help you with what you want to do with the template.

hope that helps :)

Editing it is not that hard I think you need a bit of supervision ....why don't you try and take help of professional around you because its hard to explain it online....

People purchase templates usually because they don't want to contract it out.

Susanne, without seeing a source file, it's almost impossible to help you with this. Template makers aren't the greatest coders (to put it nicely) so making assumptions as to coding standards is futile.

If you're interested in help, as hyk has said, up your .fla and someone might be able to help.
