A General word of warning

If you use FrontPage, and complain of massive errors with other browsers, then generally we aren't able to fix them. You'll have to use another editor.

Just post more reasons and I'll add more.

I like this thread tech, but the same can be said for most other 3rd party web design apps, like DreamWeaver, for example.

All of these will put their own code in the source somewhere, causing huge problems for almost certain at some point.

Never had any problems with Dreamweaver though.

Oh well, at least NotePad's not criticized. :)

Some problems are more robust than others. And please don't think I was bashing this thread, not at all, I think it needs to be said! I just wanted it out there that this is something that other programs do as well, it isn't just limited to Frontpage.

You personally might not have had problems with Dream Weaver, however, based on your experience and knowledge I am willing to bet you actually have had the problems, and known how to fix them on your own, thus not able to place the blame on DW.

You can search these forums for keyword "dreamweaver" and see a ton of posts where DW was the lying cause of the problem.

NotePad is the way to go :)

yes, all wysiwyg editors have problems, but others are NOT microsoft. Frontpage is designed specifically for IE, so any other browser will almost surely have trouble.

I have seen, personally, many more threads in which Frontpage, rather than any other editor:
-created weird errors that made problems for visitors, esp. w/o IE
-created errors that were not fixable by even the experts here

Yes, the "im wit frontpage" threads.

And your points have been added also.

Yes, FrontPage is definitely the worst of them, but a mention that other WYSIWYG editors suffer from some of the same problems is probably in order.

Sorry For Breaking The Rules...
Ive Found A Neat Text editor Similar To Notepad. Saves As ascii.

Edit: Sorry, didn't notice the link on the image.

In the software world, yes, I agree completely (spelling?). But in the website WYSIWYG world, there are far too many of them. Just to name a few of the top of my head:

MySpace, GeoCities, Tripod, Angelfire, others that aren't worth remembering, etc.

There's one more reason I can think of (from an ISP point of view), the server that you want to host the site on has to have FP Extensions enabled and updated regularly in order for FP to work properly.

In the software world, yes, I agree completelyAh, I'd forgotten about those. I've still yet to see one that can mangle a good page design better than FrontPage, though.
(spelling?).Correct.

It appears we were all wrong. FrontPage is actually awesome.

This page (http://reisio.com/temp/frontpage_rules.png) says so.

That's it, I am going to go install FP '03 right now!

I AM against the designer view for FP, but I use the developer's (coding) view for FP:

(I know... weird link, it's my "image" hosting FTP, seeings funpic doesn't allow more then 15 megs or something)

Er... a logo (http://www.freewebservices.net/images/fwslogo.gif)?

I know... It's freewebhosting.com putting their own stuff on there.
Try this:

What's it actually doing for you, other than line numbers?

Because that's ftp it doesn't allow preview options, but normally it lets you preview your code with a button in the corner... Personally I don't have the time to download a different program or start using something else. It's just my own preference.

Well yes, but that preview is with IE.

I configured it for Firefox, actually.

Ah, that's fairly, although surely a "Quick-Launch" icon would be just as easy.

Sorry if I offended anyone by "going against the grain", but that's just my preference. :p

Give me notepad (or notepad+) and FTP any day. I just can't stand FP (any version) from both the developer's standpoint and the ISP's standpoint. (FP extensions).

Sorry if I offended anyone by "going against the grain",Of course you didn't. I still don't see the benefits though. :-\
