What about PHP and ASP

Which is better when comparing speeds, development time, and scalability? Can anyone give me some statistics

i've heard php works 400 times faster than asp, with or without the zend optimiser i don't know.

PHP is undoubtedly a lot faster than Apache:ASP but saying 400 times faster is a bit exaggerated.

I think PHP is better: reasons being
1) Flexibility
2) Faster -> in uploads than ASP or JSP
3) Support for lots of DB's
4) Easy to use

On the other hand, if you are stuck with NT (a misfortunate event) you have no other option than to use ASP. Or you could sit down and learn Java and use JSP, but that is another world altogether...

Anyway, if on UNIX I see no reason for using Apache::ASP instead of Perl or PHP. You can also use ePerl (embedded Perl) if you want Perl to feel like PHP (combined with HTML code)... http://www.devshed.com/Talk/Forums/smile.gif

Actually on NT your not bound to just ASP or JSP....

I have a NT PHP4 developement box.... Mainly cause I need it to run other apps, and I don't have the cash to swing an other box.
http://www.php4win.de/ is a great site if you plan on running php in win32.

Although I suggest *nix, it works.

If anyone tells you it can't be done, go and dream... You could be the one to do it.
