Problem with PHP Bundle....

I downloaded the bundle to my Win98 comp and followed the directions. I installed the .ini and ran the GO.BAT it worked fine..... Then I tried the http://localhost thing and it asked me if I wanted to connect (I was offline). I said no and it gave me a 404 error...... Then I created a .php file and saved it to the www directory and tried to open it with IE. No can do.... What did I do wrong??

Thanks,

Do you have a server installed such as Apache?

Did you unzip the file to C:/phpdev/ ?it needs to be there for the config to work as is -

You may need to disconnect from the net and then close and restart IExplorer,

Another possible problem is your proxy settings - in IE - go to 'tools' - 'internet options' - choose the 'connections tab' - click the 'LAN settings' button - click the 'advanced' button.
At the bottom of the box there is a text field - with the heading 'Exceptions' .
Type- http://localhost
click 'ok' and close explorer - reopen it (with Apache running) and you should get the first screen.

If that works the try clicking on the first of the 2 files there (index.php3) you should then see the results of phpinfo() - if you do its all running.

Rod - Hartman is referring to the PHP4/Apache/MySQL/phpMyAdmin bundled zip - at http://www.firepages.com.au/news.php3 (http://www.firepages.com.au/php.php3) - it extracts to C: and should run straight off on win9* and poss' 2k machines without any configuration - I could never get Apache to work on my machine - someone kindly sent me this zip - so as it worked so well for me I put it up for download.

Hi again FirePages!

I did what you said about the Proxy Server..... It gave me an error message that said "The settings for the proxy server you've chosen aer blank. This prevents access to the Internet. Do you want to turn off the proxy connection?"

OOPS.... http://www.devshed.com/Talk/Forums/smile.gif What did I do???? LOL

Thanks,

depends, maybe you do not use a proxy server in which case you should not need to do anything anyway - mmm - go back to 'tools' - 'internet options' - choose the 'connections tab' this time click the 'settings' button, a screen comes up there will be a box called 'proxy settings' - if this is blank or greyed out you do not have a proxy server and this is not your problem - if it has text in it - something like 'proxy.x.server.com' or similar - click the 'advanced' tab, in this screen - ## at the very bottom ## there is a box called 'exceptions' - in here type http://localhost - and ok - apply etc

otherwise I am not sure what the problem could be - the bundle is designed to run straight off - with no configuration - It worked 1st time for me - which is good as I know nothing about configuring Apache etc.

Do you have PWS installed? - I have heard that that can be a problem - I have Omnihttpd but that still works without giving Apache any problems - & vice versa.

Try again and let me know.

Well i didn't think that i had the PWS installed but I do...... How do i get it off? I never use it!!!

Sorry for silly question. Do I have to install Apache, PHP, MySql separatly or It comes with the bundle? Also can I install mysql on windows95? I have downloaded bundle on windows95 and done all things and clicked on go button. It gives me error therefore problem. I can not find widows95 version of mysql on mysql site. Please help.

The bundle has PHP / Apache / MySQL /phpMyAdmin in it , they all unzip to the same directory - MySQL should work on 95.

I am getting feedback of about 50/50 installs/does not ! - all on windows95/98 for the bundle - unfortunately I have not a clue why some work & some do not!

I am having the same problem. Win95.
No trace of PWS or Omni. Can't connect to http://localhost .

I have phpdev423 installed on win98. I am able to connect to localhost, but when i save php file to the C:/phpdev/www folder I cannot open them without connecting to the internet. I can open a select few of the pages provided with the installation. I do not have PWS installed.
