I noticed that several sites will insert an image in your bookmark, like an icon instead of the usual IE symbol (for IE 5.0+). I am wondering how can this be done? I am also wondering how can you insert an image in your url field instead of the IE symbol?

IE looks for an image called favicon.ico and uses that if it finds it. Simple upload that onto your server and IE will use it (I assume). I figued this out after looking over my Apache error logs and trying to figure out why the hell so many people were looking for favicon.ico...

do you know how to make a favicon.ico file? Can you use a regular gif image and rename them to a ico file? if not, can you explain to me how to make a ico file?

It will tell you how large the icon is supposed to be and both ways to add it to you page. Good luck (:

most pc magazine CD,s have a copy of microangelo on them - just the job for icons & cursors.

I recently learned that all you have to do is make a 16 x 16px gif image and save it as a favicon.ico file and upload it in the server's main directory. That simple.
