Removing automated tasks

I have a really annoying problem.
I installed a program (refered as program 'A'), but there's a not-so-nice side effect. About every 15 minutes w2k opens my browser and the browser automatically goes to A's homepage (and it is really annoying!)
I don't seem to get rid of this side effect in any way. I've uninstalled the program, and I've checked that this task is not in scheduled tasks, but the ads still keeps poping up. Does anyone have any ideas how I could get rid of this ad?
(By the way, isn't this kind of an ad illegal?)

yes, i think this is illegal. but it really depends on the state you live in.

check "start/run/msconfig" and "start/run/regedit, look for "run" and "runonce" entries.)". if it does not go away, complain to the author. if he lives in the īstates, threaten him to go to court and get like $1000.000.000 for stealing your time and dialing up 1.000.000 times!!!!!!

(noone could pay my time though...)

also check sysagent for scheduled tasks (if it was that easy...)

Nope, didn't find anything. Tho, it has stoped to popup by itself, at least for now :-/

<--- remembers the days when he still had a dial up

sadly there is 1.000.000 ways to do what happened to you. since you installed software....

BO2K & SubSeven can do it at least in 5 different ways. i can do it 10 at least.

there is only one way i can think of: donīt install software that you donīt trust the author (of).

if you want to test soft, install on a machine that you can kill the whole system on and reinstall from a backup in 5 mins (only for a dedicated test-system) or use a system like "vmware" or "connectix virtualPC" where you can do an "undo" on your (virtual) hard-disk

if you still experience problems, find someone among your friends that can write letters that look like an attorney s ones.

professional threatening helps some times........

Hehe...
Well, it seems like the "feature" has "removed itself" after I posted this thread.

...and besides, I'm not the suing type of a person :-)

since a few months i can calculate what me spending my time on computer stuff is worth.... (new job, new company)

but if it is your private time/fun, i think noone can pay this, donīt you agree?
