IIS on xp

hi,
i have xp's home version which doesn't come with IIS. I was looking around on the microsoft site to download this, but i guess it's not available for free?
i want to run ASPs but i understand this doesn't work too well with apache

IIS is for Windows servers.

Hmm... I can't seem to find it either..

IIS is only for Windows server editions (Advanced and server).

But XP professional version contains a lite version of IIS (Personal Web Server) which you can install it from Add/Remove software in control panel.

It does not support multidomain name hosting.

I have win2k pro at home and i have iis5 running on it. xp pro comes with iis5.1

windows 98 came with personal web server, which was a lite version of iis (and also pants)

I havent used xp, so i dont know whether the home version comes with a lite version, nor do i know whether iis5.1 that comes on pro edition has changed much since the 5.0.

you can configure php, perl under iis really easily and you can also configure asp to work under apache. so its swings and roundabouts.

apache is the most common web server on the market, plus its open source plus you can download it for linux or msi's for windows. its also less prone to hackers.

IIS 5.1 does come on XP Pro and you can install it on XP Home though you have to make some modifications(at your own risk).

I have it running on my XP Home machine though currently it will not allow me to add websites and you have to touch permissions a bit to get it to work. I still believe that XP Home and Pro are like NT Workstation and Server, some kernal just registry changes. If my memory serves me there were something like only 10 differences between the NT Server and Workstation registry, though they were well hidden.
