I would like to learn how to use the smb.conf file for file sharing through windows so that I can upload my files through windows. Also I would like to make a backup of smb.conf.

Try http://www.samba.org or enter man samba in your shell or read the docs that are provided with samba. To backup smb.conf is as easy as copying it...
