Dynamically change x y values

I was working on something last night and I have come to the conclusion
it
can not be done but, I wanted to throw it your way to see what you
think.

I was trying to dynamically change the course of a tweened instance by
making the _x _y change threw a random number generated.

I can make it work if I do not tween the instance, but as soon as I
tween
it.
it will not change the _x _y (I think because the tween is the new
instance
but not sure)
I name the instances in the movie and try to change the last instance
(ender) in the tween using a function that is generated from the movie
and
the random numbers are sent from the button.

if you have any insight I would appreciate it but, I am afraid it is a
limitation in flash
thanks for any direction

right...

you have a movieclip on your stage and you've given it an instance name (say 'mc'), now are you saying that you've motion tweened mc between two keyframes and are trying to change the _x _y values dynamically?

I'm not sure that can be done.

...you could place the tween inside another movieclip and move that clip dynamically, producing the same effect.
