I have a XPNetworking problem I would like to mention. I perform the Network Setup Wizard on both my computers. The desk top has XP Pro and my lap top has XP Home. I am using a crossover cable from one network card to the other. I have dial up internet with AT&T hooked up to my modem on the desk top. After the setup I have an internet gateway enable in my network connections. and every thing works fine. I am able to hook up to the internet on my laptop thru internet explorer. When I shut down both computers and turn them back on I lose the internet gateway and I can not connect the laptop to the internet until I run the network setup wizard on both computers once again. Has anyone seen this problem and can somebody help resolve this condition

Contact Microsoft technical support, this has nothing to do with DNS.

either that or post in the windows forum.

Try shutting both down then booting up the PC with the Modem in it first. Once that system is up and running, go ahead and boot up the second one. Make sure the first one is fully booted.

I am pretty sure your problem is this.. The machine with the modem in it is also acting as a DHCP server to the laptop. If the first system is not up and running when you boot the laptop then the laptop will not be assigned an IP address properly and will not be able to access the Internet via the gateway.

Hope this helps!
