-Samuel Bressi

you need to put real good spammer in there

Huh?

Pasiphae1213:
Go to Devshed's Career Center (http://devshed.tech-engine.com/) and look there for jobs. Your advertising here counts imnsho as spam.

Ok, how is this spam? I am not sending any unwanted materials. My subject line simply read "Need help with your project?" therefore, if you do not, DONT READ THE MESSAGE. Last time I checked, this was a "PROJECTS" forum, and the topic says "Post here if you need to gather interested parties to work on a project. Look here if you are interested in joining a project."

I am simply adhering to the rules by offering my services to anyone that needs them for their project. I am not looking for a career or a full-time job. I am not advertising any products.

-Sam

Uh, technically you are advertising your products/services, and with your defensive reply have probably turned off any potential takers.

Good luck, though!

This is clearly advertising. Anyway, the forum is called "Project Help Wanted", not "Project Help Wanted?" or "Services To Offer". The forum's description goes on then about projects. The only mention of projects in your post is in line 1, saying that you want some.

Anyway, the whole appearance of your post reminds me rather of an application for a job than a usual question. No one (or at least I) would complain about a post saying "I am a professional web developer, have some free time and would like to work on a commercial project. Do you know some?" - this is a question and so at least in a way suitable in a forum.

By the way, afaik Marx said that work is equivalent to products. You are advertising (your) work, so you are advertising a product.

Yes, I did think about just posting something along the lines of "I am a professional web developer, have some free time and would like to work on a commercial project. Do you know some?"

But then it hit me, if I post that, I would get a few people replying "well, why dont you post some of your skills?" so I cut that step out, and just posted my skills.

Im not pulling your leg to read my post. If you DONT want help, then dont reply to me.

My post is not a job application, it is just a notice to let everyone know that if they do, in fact, need help with something that I am skilled in, then I am available to assist them.

Hell, EVERYONE advertises in some way, shape, or form.. Your signature advertises the "Code of the Geeks" website. No one is bitching at you for it. Zzyzzx's signature advertises VTCoins.com. I am promoting my skills to people that need projects. It doesn't say anywhere that you CANT post your skills in this forum. It says its a project forum, and I do projects. If they (DevShed) doesn't want me to post my resume in this forum, then they can explicitly say so in the topic.

Until YOU become a moderator, dont tell me what I cant post.

Conversation ended, expect no reply.

If you ask a question, you don't just cut steps out and say "Thank You for solving my problem in the future".

Yes, you are. Few ppl have time to stop and interprete a thread subject before reading. Most just scan for keywords, if there are no keywords, it all depends on how much time the reader has got. Your post has been a waste of time for me and others and I wanted you to know that.

... for money. Which makes your help a job. Which makes your post in fact a job application.

Your signature advertises the "Code of the Geeks" website.

That link is in fact partly on topic since most ppl here are (and some would even describe themselves as) geeks. Anyway, I'm not making a two-page ad out of it and I'm in no way related to that site and actually tried to get that font smaller (failed).

It doesn't say anywhere that you CANT post your skills in this forum. It says its a project forum, and I do projects.

It says this is a "Project Help Wanted" forum (without "?").

Until YOU become a moderator, dont tell me what I cant post.

I'm not telling you that. I just wanted to express my opinion that your post is, spoken directly, sh*t.

Giving up? Going to post this ad somewhere else? We'll never know ...

what gives you precedence over anyone else to
get work??

if someone wants help they ask and then anybody
interested contacts them.

.
Your post has been a waste of time for me and others and I wanted you to know that.
Well, I am sorry to hear that you have nothing better to do.

Which makes your post in fact a job application
No, I am not applying for a job, I am merely saying "if you need help, feel free to contact me, here is what I am good at..."

Giving up? Going to post this ad somewhere else? We'll never know ...

No, I just dont feel like continuing this conversation. Its meaningless.

what gives you precedence over anyone else to get work??

I never said I had precedence, I just posted it in case anyone didn't feel like searching as much. Im not stopping anyone else from assisting people with projects, I am just offering my services also. I consider it one reply to many posts. If ten people post a project, I just give them a link to check out this post, rather than telling EVERYONE my qualifications on a case by case basis.

DevShed is not my priority in finding projects, I just posted it as a convenience to others that do not wish to search as much.

NOW, I am done posting. This conversation has been meaningless and it is filling my email with "Reply posted to your topic..." mail. If you wish to make any more comments, make them to a moderator and get them to delete the post or something. Otherwise, thank you for reading. My apologies for any inconveniences this may have caused.

That's a very effective way, but imnsho inappropiate in a forum. You might want to check out sites like www.stepstone.com .

Hardly anyone would seriously search in a forum for lists of ppl and their qualifications. That's what sites like the one named above are for. Here, ppl announce projects or ask for help.

This conversation has been meaningless

Nope. Xcept the opening post.

and it is filling my email with "Reply posted to your topic..." mail.

Take some time to become familiar with the pages behin the "user cp" link. There you can disable the email notification.

I'm in no way interested in simply getting rid of this thread. I wanted, as stated above, to explain to you what's wrong with this post.

My apologies for any inconveniences this may have caused.
No problem, if you promise to think about my arguments.

By the way, your sig is a very good way of advertisizing. It doesn't annoy anyone and is otherwise just as effective as this thread. Good luck for your search for projects!

Kinda reminds me of a perl newsgroup! :-)

It seems both of you should go to the ring in stead of forum. It reminded me something like (verbal) tyson and lennox lewis.... Its just sometimes a fun. Leave it .

Just when we were so close to reaching an agreement :D

Dude, just let it go... the retention is unhealthy. Perhaps you should make an appointment with a counselor if this is bothering you so much.

Things like this:
:Dmean that I'm joking (or at least trying to). That's certainly not a reason for me to
make an appointment with a counselor neither a reason for you to suggest that (or have I missed something?).

What made you post the above in a thread that is over 4.5 years old !?

Drugs? i want some that's for sure!

Um dude did you delete a post or something? Cause uh, the one before yours says 2002.
